Let me start by saying we were already visiting the museum, so I’m not sure if a reservation is required if you’re going to the restaurant directly. That said, they were able to accommodate my friends and me without any issues.
The service was absolutely amazing—attentive, friendly, and efficient. The food was delicious, and the drinks were strong and well-made. On top of that, the interior is gorgeous, creating a lovely atmosphere to enjoy a meal or drinks with friends. A truly delightful spot that pairs great cuisine with a beautiful setting.
Great to have a quiet, elegant and affordable restaurant in the Museum of Natural History neighborhood. Clara, named for the designer of Tiffany Lamps featured in New York Historical's collection, is the decor inspiration for this new eatery. It's a perfect spot for a respite from the excited kids wolfing down burgers at Shake Shack, a nice ladies who lunch place, a stylish post-New Yoek Historical talk place for cocktails. Very good food, interesting entrees like pistachio-crusted salmon and roast squash. Appetizers, soups, a salad, small and delectable menu. Friendly service and comfortable chairs allow you to sit longer than any other UWS establishment.

We booked this spot for dinner after attending the MONH next door, and it truly is next door. Clara did not meet all my expectations, yet overall it was a good meal. We arrived prior to our reservation and were ushered to a table immediately, as there were only two other tables occupied. That pleased me because I like a quieter atmosphere. The food came out faster than I thought it would, and the Parkertown rolls were great. I would rate the rest of our meal as a mixed bag. The Quiche Lorraine and sweet potato puree were good, but the chicken schnitzel was disappointing. The chicken was cooked fine but felt under seasoned, and it was served with soft white cabbage drizzled with mustard and garnished with raw red cabbage shavings. Overall it seemed like an underdeveloped dish that felt a bit dialed in.
My only other concern was that we were seated far from the entrance door, as any opening blew substantial cold windy air into the room.

Nice atmosphere with a very beautiful design and lots of natural light, but the food was way too salty — everything we tried (the soup, arancini, salmon, chicken), literally all of it. It might be a nice spot for cocktails or coffee after a museum visit (we didn’t try the drinks, so can’t comment on taste), but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for food.

From Butter to Clara, this Alex Guarnaschelli restaurant is a perfect addition to the NYC gastronomy. The food is simple but delicious, delicious appetizers, Delectable main course and a sweet dessert to end the experience. If you’re visiting the museum or just walking through Central Park I recommend coming here for the food and atmosphere.
