I've dined at quite a few Michelin and hatted restaurants worldwide and I really expected more from a 2 hat place. We had their chef selection dinner menu. The one standout was the Cervo /Venison which was an absolute joy to eat, perfectly balanced and intriguingly complex with the parsnip puree, parsnip chips and elderberry jus. The second best dish was the wallaby tartare mostly because I've never had wallaby before. But apart from that, their octopus and tomato tagiatelle was disappointingly claggy and sticky/gluey in the texture, and the octopus was chewy and way over salted which was a shame. The kingfish crudo also was heavy on too many salty elements and not enough acidity. The tiramisu sabayon was slightly grainy and apart from the theatre display there was nothing memorable about it.
Ambiance was warm but not intimate enough, table settings are super close to each other and we were crammed right next to the fireplace where another table was sitting perpendicular, so close that another guest's hair was almost touching our table when she leaned back. We asked to move to the table next to us, which we were told was "reserved" but stayed empty the entire night from 5.30 to 8pm. This kind of service is just shocking for 2 hat restaurant. Service was brisk and professional but not personalised except when they assembled the tartare and tiramisu dishes in front you...
All in I wouldn't return, it doesn't live up to 2 hats. Except for their deer (cervo) dish which was the one saving grace and a dish I would gladly eat 10x over.
Just WOW! Booked here for wife's 50th birthday dinner. The staff was amazing, everyone on the floor tonight was so friendly and helpful. So glad we made the trip out of Queenstown tonight for dinner. From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The wine was also perfectly chosen for us. Thank you all for the memorable dinner!!. Highly recommend if you're in the area

I've always loved Italian cuisine, but Aosta tops all of the Italian restaurants I've tried in New Zealand so far.
The restaurant is warm and cozy with good lighting that sets the mood.
The food is 10/10! Flavors are well combined and they have such high respect for the quality of the ingredients.
The two Italian staff members that hosted us have been the warmest: Luca, the sommelier didn't miss a beat on the wine recommendations.
Chris was accommodating and knew his ingredients well. He was also really patient (the person near me was a bit rude and he handled the situation smoothly)
Aosta is 110% a MUST when you're in Arrowtown. Can't wait to be back! 💓💓💓

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Aosta. As a vegetarian, going to an Italian restaurant can be a bit of a risk, but I was pleased with the options I was given.
Our server, Luca, was friendly and helpful and did a wonderful job, especially with our tiramisu dessert. For the starter, the focaccia was delicious, especially the stracciatella. Our next course came a little later than expected, and the wait was around 30 minutes before our "starters" came out. I think 10 minutes less would have been perfect. The flavours in our second courses were complex and interesting, especially with the anchovies (?) that my mum enjoyed. The cacao e Pepe was as excellent as it could be. Our main course was okay. In terms of the flavour, the pappardelle was wonderful, and as I had mine without the paua I accept that I might be missing something important. However the crispy leek on top clashed a little bit with the texture of the food. My mum had the blue fin tuna ragu - she enjoyed the tuna a lot and said the ragu sauce was excellent, but the tagliatelle lacked flavour, although we had filled up a bit already from our other courses! The best course was the tiramisu, just 10/10 and I would come back easily just for this dish. The service was outstanding, we were checked on throughout the night and overall I think it brings up the rating to 5 stars. Thank you for a wonderful evening. I look forward to returning.
