An iconic traditional cockney pie and mash shop in North London, known for its meat pies, mashed potatoes, liquor, and jellied eels, which recently reopened after closing due to rising rents.

Probably the best pie and mash in london. And the shop is full of history. And for how popular it is there was no problem getting a table. Great experience.
If your a Newb the rules are.
Turn the pie over and cut into the soft side. Always liqour never gravy and the chilli vinegar is a must. Thank me later
Not many restaurants can boast a legacy of over 130 years. This one does, and you can quite literally taste the history! The food is visually unassuming but is undoubtedly delicious. It's better for first - timers like me because there's an opportunity to create your own palette with every bite or two, until you nail the taste your looking for. Highly recommend using PLENTY of chilli vinegar and pepper. The ladies at the counter were very kind and helpful when I told them it was my first time there. I was perhaps the only person of colour at the time, which made the experience even more unique not just for me, but also for the staff as I don't think they get many Indian/ Asian customers. The interiors are quite dated too, including the benches which are rather upright! Not a critique at all, it actually transports you to a simpler time. It's a must-go, for those who value heritage and simplicity in food. I most certainly will return soon.
I really love this place because it’s like being transported back in time. From the tiles on the walls to the furniture and tables - it’s all as it should be.
The lady who appears to run the place is very lovely. She’s friendly and has a warmth that is genuine, even when she’s rushed off her feet. And she’s always busy!
We have recently stopped eating meat so we had the vegan pie and mash, which was delicious. In all honesty the vegan pie is so similar to the meat pie and we were really pleased that we didn’t have to compromise at all. The same care goes into making them and they look just the same! The top crust is really lovely and firm, so I recommend flipping it over in the traditional manner to allow the liquor to moisten the pie. Totally delicious!
I went back for a second helping, which did not surprise the staff at all - happens all the time - but I had trouble making it through the second one. Greedy guts! The food didn’t sit heavily though and I felt properly ready for my monthly walk around London.
If you’re visiting London and want a genuine historical experience then you could not do better. The food is very reasonable in price as well, because that’s the whole point: once you taste it you’ll see why genuine food doesn’t need to be expensive.
Thanks Manze’s - you’re ace!
See you again soon!

A great place for traditional London working-class food—proper pie and mash. The quality is excellent, and it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in genuine local cuisine with roots in the 1800s. Simple, hearty, and full of character, it feels like stepping into a piece of London’s food history. No frills, dirt cheap, and done right.
The pie and mash + chill vinegar (is a must)
Wow the taste 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☺️🌅
Looks old school 🏫 and sets a great tone of relaxation and blend with warm feeling during the visit.
Feeling free to come see for yourself. 🫂⭐️
