My family and I visited The Mexican STL for the first time, and I have to say, the atmosphere was absolutely amazing…From the moment we walked in, the customer service was top-tier. We were greeted quickly and immediately seated, upon being seated we were served waters, chips, and salsa promptly. The restaurant itself is stunning and definitely creates a great atmosphere and cozy vibe.
A special shout-out to our waiter, Mustache Sam, who was absolutely fantastic. He was upbeat, knowledgeable about the menu, and incredibly accommodating. Even though he was apologetic about the limited menu options, his excellent service truly stood out and made our experience better.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed by a couple of things. For a Mexican restaurant, we were surprised that frozen margaritas were not available or an option. As a pescatarian, I also found the menu to be very limited, which made it difficult for me to find something appealing. We were looking forward to enjoying dinner there, but ultimately decided not to stay because the menu just did not meet our expectations.
That said, the ambiance and customer service were exceptional, so I’d still encourage others to check it out and decide for themselves.
We visited on a Saturday evening, made reservations online ahead of time which is recommended. Our first cocktails were okay, the skinny marg was average and the New Fashion was a slow sipper, not as smooth as their traditional old fashioned. The classic marg and watermelon mint marg were both much better choices.
The fajita filet was amazing, melted like butter in your mouth and the bone marrow was a great bonus. The wagyu flank came out overcooked the first time and was a bit tough. We sent it back and the second one was much better. The fries with it were average, better once soaked in the steak juice.
Service was very polite and they comped one of our cocktails for the overcooked flank steak. But they only refilled our water glasses once and disappeared after that.
The restaurant is very nice with multiple seating options, in the dining room, high tops, at the bar, and they have a great closed in patio that have garage style doors that can open in nice weather. The outdoor green space looked really nice as well.
It is in the pricey side, which aligns with their Twisted restaurants. But the steak quality was at least great.
An absolute 10/10 experience from start to finish!
The Mexican STL is a cool, sparkling clean new addition to the community. The indoor dining room is beautiful, but the outdoor space is next-level. They have a fantastic outdoor patio, an open-air bar, a massive big-screen TV, and an outdoor stage for live bands—making it a perfect neighborhood gathering spot. We sat at the bar looking out over the terrace and had a perfect view of the screen.
The menu is incredibly unique, focusing on non-traditional Mexican dishes. It caught us by surprise at first since you won't find standard items like nachos or burritos, but everything we had was absolutely amazing!
To top it off, the service was flawless. Our server was fantastic, and the manager was super friendly and made a point to check on us during our visit.
I highly recommend this spot and will definitely be back!
Savannah made our first visit to The Mexican STL fantastic! The food and drink were outstanding! The atmosphere was perfect! The attention to details was impeccable. Savannah’s recommendations, answering of questions and hospitality were OUTSTANDING! What a wonderful place for a special celebration evening.
I want to mention right away that the staff here needs to be praised. All of them did a terrific job and have strong work ethic and it is much appreciated.
Now, the food ranges from great to bland. The appetizers like, guacamole, queso, and such I thought were the best and give you some high hopes on what’s to come for your entree.
However, the tacos they serve are lacking. Not enough seasoning and small portions of filling. This is where you are seeing people say that the food is bland.
Dessert was great as though. I’m sure their cocktails are special for a night out, as the bar looked very nice.
The interior of the restaurant is incredibly nice and has plenty of seating.
The food is expensive, but that’s expected for most local restaurants nowadays and just by looking at the building, you can assume that it would be. It is also because all of their food is made from scratch.
Despite the entrees being lacking, I still think this is one of the best Mexican places in St. Louis to open. It’s relatively new, and I’m sure there will be some changes with possible improvements along the way.
