Tony was an expert server. The food was remarkable, particularly the famous steak. It’s a great menu for family style dining and sharing the meal. The wine selection and suggested pairings were marvelous. I loved getting to enter the kitchen and sear my own steak! The experience was great and we will definitely return.
Not your typical restaurant. Over the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Oltrano on a quite little street corner, you will find one of the best restaurants in Florence. The food is authentic Florentine and I suspect mostly locals eat here. Its more like going to your familys house for dinner, not fancy but you know everything was prepared with passion and love.
Our waiter Tony was excellent. He made his suggestions and we ordered everything he said. The Tripe Florentine was nothing like we were use to. No red sauce, no potatoes or peas. It was in a simple broth of onions and carrots and the best we have ever tasted. The Ribolita was also outstanding. We also had the pork chop which was tender and amazing. Tony was so kind and he even let me try speaking to him in Italian. We enjoyed the house wine. The meal was so good and Tony was so welcoming, we went back on our last night in Florence.
The menu is simple and the food was delicious.
If you can, stop by and see Tony and oh, take his suggestions on what to eat.
We will definately go back when we return to Florence
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Florence, and I make it a point to come here every year. It's in Oltrarno, so near the hottest tourist center, but tucked away in an alleyway where you'll find plenty of locals and enthusiastic waiters. The food is delicious, the service is authentic, and it's a great Florientine meal. I love it.
Amazing food but the vibes are not really there anymore. We went to dinner at 21.00 which I would say is completely normal for Italy and the place was almost completely empty. The waiter is watching you the whole time, it feels like surveillance. The place was so silent it was a bit awkward. I can imagine perhaps in the glory days of the place it was wonderful but they didn’t take care of the place as they should have. Prices are expensive for the service and food presentation you get. Overall could’ve been amazing but it wasn’t a nice experience.
The trattoria is located in a street corner central Florence, and is one of the oldest restaurants in the city.
We arrived at lunchtime and got placed at the end of a long table - here the setting is like a canteen, and guests shared a long table.
The service staff explained the menu to us, and we ordered the soup of the day duo (tomato / white bean) as antipasti, and as main course the roasted pigeons and calf meat with green sauce, plus green asparagus, and potatoes in tomato sauce.
Unfortunately, the razor clams that we had 6 years ago were not available this time.
The "soup" was more like a thick soup or "suppchen" and it's kind of grandma style. We found the duo option is a good idea so that we can try both soups in one dish.
The roasted pigeons had an intensive flavour and aroma, and the devoted pigeon-eater approved the dish.
For the cooked calf meat, the sauce is more important. The mixture of herbs, garlic, and olive oil resulted in the unique taste.
The side dishes - the green asparagus (in room-temperature) in olive oil was well-made, and my husband enjoyed the potatoes with tomato sauce very much - it was sweet and aromatic.
During the planning stage of this year's Florence trip, my husband insisted on putting it into the list, as his food memory 6 years ago called him back. I am looking forward to the next visit.
