From the minute we walked in until the moment we left, the service was impeccable. Started with their take on Puri street food which was tiny puffed bread that is opened at the top and each once came with a sauce meant to pour in. They change the flavor each day and ours was papaya based but also has some savoury onion and some other deliciousness. We both had shrimp based dishes. One with Curry and mango and the other was avocado and mango. Both were amazing and filling. We also had their fresh naan which was pillowy and light. Finished with a cardamom gelato which was a perfect finisher.
The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes. The dosa, sesame chilli naan and chole were my favorite of them all. The chai martini was delicious.
And the names of the drinks… too creative ;)
Rivayat sets the high bar for Indian food in Charleston! Fresh new place in Elliotborough, you walk in to a dimmer lit and nicely decorated spot. Immediately noticed the great service and quick delivery of drinks and apps. Non alc “pineapple mango mojito” was fantastic, as was their take on a spiced old fashioned. Started with dips and mussels. Both were flavor bombs and plenty of little nibbles. Some spicy some not. The mussels were delicious and with some of the best garlic bread ive had in a while.
The chicken dish was very unique. The pistacios were not over powering, dont let that deter you. My wife isnt even a fan of pistacios and she loved it! Lamb dish was very flavorful. Medium heat is quite hot, id say 5/10 but as an average white guy thats as hot as i dare go in a high end restaurant. Id say first dates should stay mild, live dangerously at full hot spicy rating.
They remembered to bring a slice of pineapple cake when marking “birthday” on Resy, topped with a huge sparkler.
Great service, great food, probably the category leader for high end Indian in Charleston.
I thought the food and service at Rivayat was excellent. We got the kale salad to start. The cumin dressing was so flavorful. Not too powerful, but perfectly balanced on a fresh salad. We also got some garlic naan and kerala parotta (not pictured). Both were very nice. For our mains, we got the Dhaba Chicken Curry and the Lamb Biriyani. I thought these dishes were nicely balanced and aromatic. The portion sizes were also very generous. The angle of the pictures is a little deceptive, but for 2 people, we had more than enough food and took some leftovers home. We finished with the olive oil cake. The olive oil cake was good, but the mascarpone vanilla cream frosting was my favorite part. Overall, Rivayat was a very nice experience. The menu has plenty of options, the food was excellent and the service was smooth and not rushed. Highly recommend, cheers!
Wonderfully surprised and delighted with this restaurant! Every dish had an amazing depth of flavor and the perfect amount of heat.
The ambiance was really special, and it’s not too loud. The service was great as well!
We got the Pani Puri, Gunpowder Dosa, oysters and the fish curry.
If you like Indian food, I highly recommend going. We are so glad we found a spot that we will be going returning to on the regular!
