Customer Perception
Customers praise A. Wong for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly and engaging staff, and the chef's welcoming presence. The dining experience is often described as enjoyable and surprising.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with reservations available. It is open on Tuesdays and likely other weekdays/evenings. Booking in advance is recommended due to its popularity.
A.Wong is one of those places in London that simply cannot be replicated and are considered an institution for a reason. I think there are so many Michelin rated restaurants in London - or actually, even many without any stars or accolades - that feel incredibly underwhelming / overpriced. This is not one of them.
The food was truly delectable. The craftsmanship and attention to detail shines through in every dish. The flavors, textures and layers come together in a way that very few chefs could engineer, and thus honors its original heritage yet redefines it simultaneously. Every bite was delicious, and whilst I enjoyed every single dish, the standouts were as follows: of course the duck yolk custard bun (don’t skip these), the black pepper beef pastry (which we re-ordered after finishing our first serving), the wild mushroom truffle bun, the sweet and sour rib, and the crispy aromatic duck. The service was very personable and professional, making you feel right at home.
A special thanks to Iris who was such a delight throughout our meal, she guided us through everything perfectly and made sure we were looked after at all times.
Overall a wonderful experience that I regret not having sooner, but that I certainly will return to again in the future. Especially in the grand scheme of London dining prices, this place feels like a steal and is well worth it.
As a Cantonese, I think the food is exceptional. The must try dishes are definitely the special menu items, they didn’t disappoint. The steamed duck egg custard bun is on another level. The operations manager was very warm and welcoming, making the three-hour dining experience feel like it flew by. We also visited the downstairs bar, Forbidden City. Discovering A Wong family’s story in the same restaurant was such a beautiful touch… I love this place 🤍
Certainly one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Europe. The creativity, the taste, the beautiful presentation and the great variety of aromas and textures leaves one speechless. What a great experience!!!
As a Cantonese diner, I was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday here, especially given the restaurant’s reputation, but the experience did not live up to expectations.
While I understand that fine dining often focuses on bite sized portions, the way dishes were served felt poorly thought out. We were sometimes given a single small portion to divide between three, which felt inadequate at this price point and not well considered in terms of how the food should be shared.
The food itself was good, but it did not excel in flavour or feel elevated as expected for a restaurant of this calibre.
Service was the biggest issue. What should have been a 2.5-3 hour experience stretched to nearly 4 hours due to long delays between courses. Plates were often left for 10 to 15 minutes before being cleared, and overall the service felt inattentive, with little sense of pacing or coordination.
As our first two star dining experience, we expected a clear step up in service. While dishes were explained well, the attentiveness and execution did not feel at that level.
We had also noted in advance that it was my birthday, but this was not acknowledged at all, which was disappointing.
Overall, an underwhelming experience for what was meant to be a special occasion.
Two Michelin start restaurant in Central London was treat of flavours and heavenly selection of different dishes from all over China. They literally take you around China for the cuisines and flavours and different styles of cooking from North to East and South to West of land. I have been to many Michelin star restaurants but this one tops the list and hats off to the chef who has selected unbelievable uniqueness of clubbing these flavours with different meats and vegetables from mainland. 3 hour dinner and world of experience. I had the meal few days ago but still imagining the flavours.
