⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Los Angeles Ale Works – Hermosa Beach
Los Angeles Ale Works – Hermosa Beach is one of my favorite breweries in the South Bay. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. Their new Hermosa Beach location is absolutely stunning. Being just steps from the water gives it an easygoing beach vibe that’s the perfect place to grab a pint, hang out with friends, and enjoy everything Hermosa has to offer.
The beer is consistently outstanding. The Solar Kitten is a bold Triple IPA with bright citrus and pine flavors balanced by a smooth malt backbone. Despite its higher ABV, it’s remarkably smooth and incredibly well-balanced. The Ocean Squeeze is equally impressive, delivering refreshing notes of tropical fruit, citrus, and melon with a clean, juicy finish. Whether you’re a fan of hop-forward IPAs or something a little more approachable, there’s a beer here you’ll enjoy.
One thing that really sets Los Angeles Ale Works apart is the kitchen. It’s not your typical brewery food. The menu is creative, thoughtfully prepared, and offers something for everyone—from meat lovers to vegetarians and everything in between.
This visit I ordered the Falafel Smash, and it was packed with flavor. The falafel was perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs and spices, making every bite satisfying. As someone who usually orders meat, I didn’t miss it for a second—that might be the biggest compliment I can give a vegetarian dish.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to serve it with a small side of hummus or tzatziki. The sandwich was just a touch dry, and either would add the perfect amount of creaminess while complementing the fresh flavors of the falafel. I also think it would be even better served in a warm pita instead of the sesame potato bun, which felt a little heavy for the delicate texture of the falafel and would make the flavors feel even more authentic.
The two women behind the bar pouring beers were some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. They were welcoming, happy to chat, and made the whole experience feel relaxed from the moment I walked in. Great beer is one thing, but it’s the people that make you want to come back.
5 out of 5 stars. Between the incredible beer, delicious food, a beautiful location just steps from the beach, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, Los Angeles Ale Works – Hermosa Beach is an easy recommendation. It’s the kind of place you stop in for one pint and end up staying awhile. I’ll definitely be back for another Solar Kitten—and another Falafel Smash.
