The Bombay Club is a long-standing fine dining Indian restaurant in Washington D.C., known for its classic Indian cuisine and elegant white-tablecloth ambiance. Located a block from the White House, it has been a fixture on the DC scene for decades, serving as a popular spot for politicians and important decisions. It is owned by Ashok Bajaj.
Customers consistently praise The Bombay Club for its outstanding food quality, amazing ambiance, and excellent service, often describing the experience as feeling like royalty. The thalis and various chaats are frequently highlighted as must-try dishes. While generally positive, some reviews mention occasional slow service or specific dishes being bland, and one instance of a server being perceived as pushy.

The Bombay Club has been a prominent part of the Washington D.C. dining landscape for several decades. It has also participated in events such as DC Restaurant Week.
This is my third time coming to Bombay Club. Since the past 3 years I come here annually usually in the month of March while visiting DC .
The pictures have been taken through these 3 years and we end up getting the same order so they can’t miss or mess it haha.
I absolutely love their krispy kale and malai chicken tikka and always get it. And followed by the Bombay thali. We may or may not do a variation on our dessert and we always leave here satisfied.
It was a 5/5 for me up until this visit - the taste and flavor hasn’t changed however there is some difference in the service. Our server appeared in a hurry to suggest things as if wanting us to get just what he recommended not even asking if we had visited before and knew what we wanted. Just giving a “know it all” vibe which I didn’t appreciate
Otherwise everything else was just perfect- the thali is impeccable- just wish they would provide at lease 2 servings of bread as it is a thali to share.
The carrot halwa , Gulab jamun , rabri and everything else we have tried it’s delicious!!
Don’t let the server scare you into taking only his recommendations-lol
You’ll have great food here and good experience overall! I will rate service 3/5 and food and atmosphere 5/5
It was such a wonderful experience to eat lunch here today with my hubby. The service and the food were outstanding it felt like you were a KING & QUEEN here! Our water never ran low and my chai tea was always poured for me. Dirty dishes were always cleared from our table. I give this place a 10 out of ten. I highly recommend this place. Very kind and respectful staff here. ❤️🙏🏼
The place never disappoints once you manage to get a table blocked. Ensure you do that in advance at this popular place extremely well situated near the white house. The palak chaat is a must order and their thalis are ample! Amazing ambience and excellent service adds up to the meal here!
Came here recently for lunch. My friend and I both ordered off the DC Restaurant Week menu—comes with an appetizer, entree and desert ($35 per person). All entrees are served with rice and naan. Overall, food was good. The Sweet Potato Chaat was sweet and spicy but overloaded with onions which I didn’t like. Reshmi Kebab was not on a skewer, but rolled into a long minced chicken log—it was good, but the meat was bland, you’ll need to dip in the sauce. The Bombay Thali (vegetarian) was EXCELLENT—flavorful and beautifully presented on a silver platter with six small dishes and yellow rice. Chicken Makhni was delicious too! For dessert, wasn’t a fan of the Mango Panacotta but really enjoyed the Rice Kheer (rice pudding).
Our server was nice and attentive. Food took a while to come out for each portion—I get that they don’t want you to feel rushed but it was a long wait in between each section. Even paying the bill took a while.
It is one of the best fine dining Indian restaurants at DC. We had dinner for my birthday and everything was great. The ambiance and service are superb, but some of the food items were bland. The dahi puri chat was good. The vegetarian thali was superb. The fish curry was sour, and the okra fry was ok. It needed some seasoning. We ordered Rabdi as dessert and it was very delicious. They also brought me a birthday sorbet glass. We enjoyed our dinner and had a great time. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a great dining experience.
