Le Melon

Our last night in Nantes and we were lucky enough to stumble onto my best meal in France! Of course as Americans we walked in around 6 for a drink before dinner. Pierre welcomed us in and told us they were busy tonight but to come back in an hour. We are so glad we did as he took us through a fantastic 3 course meal with local wine pairings. What an incredible experience as he mentioned he had his master sommelier and lived in the UK for 12 years. His impeccable English paired with his French Joie de Vivre made for an amazing evening and one that shouldn’t be passed up when in Nantes. We will be back!

This place hits all points. We stopped after very long day just because it was there. What a surprise. Server was exceptional recommended perfect rose. Mackerel appetizer was perfectly balanced and just that hint of spiciness. Cordon bleu (we’ve had many times before) was the best: juicey with perfect cheese ham balance. Outer Crust was perfectly done and the dill sauce accompaniment was perfect accent. Merci beaucoup.

Looking for somewhere a wee bit special for our last night in Nantes, we discovered Melon; an intimate restaurant with a strikingly original menu packed with unexpected flavours. The staff were informative and attentive. The whole meal was an absolute delight; standout was the main course of line-caught Breton cod in a buttery sauce flavoured with sorrel, tarragon and a hint of preserved lemon. All washed down with a local Muscadet. Oh, and we had dessert, too!

Just walking through the town, Looking for somewhere to eat and happened on this place. Wasn’t open for about an hour but Pierre was so engaging and helpful we decided to kick our heels for the hour and booked a table. Pierre is a god! Great food! Great service and an amazing knowledge of wine. May not return to Nantes any time soon but, if we do, this place will be No. 1 on the list to visit
