I had the great fortune of being invited to a "hosted backstage" dinner at Lime Wood, and our entire group had an absolutely wonderful time. The experience was flawless from start to finish, thanks to an incredible team:
Chef Alex: Prepared a superb meal and was incredibly friendly, engaging, and interesting to talk to throughout the evening.
Dan (Sommelier): Introduced us to wines I would never have chosen myself, but thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to his wealth of knowledge and infectious enthusiasm, we all learned so much.
Charlie: Welcomed us at the start and looked after us all night with great humor and the perfect level of attentiveness.
It was an amazing evening filled with laughter, brilliant food, and great company. Highly recommended!
Stayed at Limewood for two nights in a courtyard room. Room was very comfortable quiet and well kitted out and good value for money. I believe the staff are the foundation of this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble and they seem genuinely friendly. I was disappointed in the spa and I believe it is overbooked with spa days and club members. This could be a challenge for some people who enjoy the peace and serenity of a five star spa. The main restaurant is spacious and comfortable. I didn’t find the menu very inspiring and there is certainly room for improvement. The choices of wine are variable and excellent. The Dartmoor venison was cooked to perfection but then smothered and burnt leaks and mushrooms so the presentation of the dish was the last thought of the chef. Breakfast choices are fresh and high-quality. I would recommend the hotel but I do believe the management are over selling the space and facilities to non-resident clients at the detriment to the in-house guests. Something to keep a close eye on nevertheless an enjoyable stay.
My partner and I have been coming here for Sunday lunch for months now, and every single visit has been absolutely flawless. Even after more visits than we can count, we still get excited every time we book! The staff are always incredible, and it’s so lovely to have become familiar faces. The food and cocktails are consistently outstanding — we honestly can’t recommend it enough.
After hearing good things about this place myself and 2 friends (in our 40s/50s) thought we would try it for lunch. We were disappointed with the limited menu and my friend was sneered at by the waiter. The spaghetti I ordered was bland and looked like it had just been thrown into the bowl.
Maybe it's because we don't speak with home counties accents or wear designer gear but I felt we were looked down upon. Our money is as good as anyone else's (especially when paying £17 for an Aperol spritz).
Whilst waiting for our taxi (which took ages as they are in chronic short supply around this area) we were interrogated by the bulldog on the door, who had been fawning over other guests. My friend mentioned her issues with the food and she pointed at the taxi and said 'your friends are waiting'.
Unfortunately, despite the beautiful setting, I cannot recommend this establishment. The staff are aloof and unfriendly and our meal was adequate at best.
Just back from an amazing 2 night stay in cottage two. We had a few minor issues with the room, which Jane went above and beyond to sort for us. She is a real gem and gave us stellar customer service - thank you, Jane!
The spa was wonderful and the food was incredible- overall, a fantastic
last minute birthday trip. Can’t wait to
Come back! ❤️
