Additional Details
The restaurant is situated in Jamestown, Rhode Island, and is a worthwhile destination even for those staying in nearby Newport, offering an escape from the crowds.
Underwhelmed and loud. The menu looked great. The pairing of foods was attractive and we didn’t mind the prices. We were excited with high expectations for a great meal.
We got the ribeye special and started with the calamari. The pairing of calamari with arugula and olives was lovely, but the squid itself was a little fishy. The steak was presliced over a bed of mixed vegetables and fingerling potatoes and a purée, but was overcooked and lacked flavor that we were expecting.
The staff was attentive but the room was loud. We couldn’t have a conversation because we couldn’t hear each other over the noise as we sat on opposite sides of the table in the corner of the room.
The place was busy and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The outdoor seating area looked pleasant and there were two bars - one inside and one out.
The most fabulous Bridal Shower Brunch at Beech! Megan was the best / tending to every detail and beyond ! All the staff was superb as well ! We had the best time and a delicious brunch!
A fabulous place to eat outdoor if you are in the Newport area. If you are staying in Newport, it is worth paying the toll and crossing the bridge over to get away from the crowd and enjoy the ambience here. They have several outdoor seating areas with the huge beach tree as the backdrop. Servers were attentive. All the dishes were well executed. Highly recommend.
Even after a new chef, the food is still lacking. My tuna tartar tasted like it went through a blender - no spice or pieces, and rather dull and tasteless. Calamari was good and the bluefish pate tasted like it came from Anthony’s. My lobster pasta diablo was a gelatinous ball of angel hair cement that I could not twirl nor eat - way too much pasta and hardly any lobster. Steak frites was a pound of frites with a couple of pieces of steak on top covered in some brown sauce. Very unappetizing and nowhere to cut the steak as it was on top of a pound of frites. Other friends had the halibut special and they liked it. Also I specifically asked for an outdoor table - and verified it twice - but got stuck with a very uncomfortable barstool table inside. Overall a very disappointing experience. Restaurant is beautiful and the service is great. Food still meh.
