Walked over here twice to try and get the dot cake but it was out of stock! Enjoyed a vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles instead. A strange comment but I think it’s some of the best sprinkles I’ve ever had, it was a great texture!
Came back a third time and got the dot cakes! So excited to try them!
Basically went here to try the hot chocolate and wandered around. I loved the the hot chocolate was piping hot so it stayed warm longer. The marshmallow was good but obviously dissolves quickly in the hot beverage. The chocolate had Swiss milk chocolate flavor and only slightly thicker in viscosity but lovely to enjoy while browsing the rest of the store for $200 melons and $500 panettone. There are some unique items here but certainly some overlap with Whole Foods. I didn’t have to wait in line too long.

This Madison location is lovely but one staff member in particular has absolutely ruined the way I feel of this beloved Butterfield location.
I live in the neighborhood and come here often. Recently I was here and ordered one of the pizzas. The guy behind the counter heard me speaking in Spanish to my mother on the phone, and from then on he wouldn't speak to me in English. I told him I felt more comfortable speaking in English, he laughed in my face, turned around to his colleague and said "she thinks she's white"
I was floored!
I could not believe he was being so disrespectful. I didn't want to be in the store any longer so I asked him to please take my pizza out of the oven so I could leave, I didn't care that it wasn't warm yet, I just wanted to get out of there. He completely ignored me and walked away. I had to ask somebody else behind the counter if they could please get my pizza.
I have included pictures of him because I believe the store should sit him down and explain to him that his behavior is unacceptable. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and I have been avoiding the store ever since.
I want to feel comfortable shopping here, given that it's the closest grocery store to my home but if I ever see this guy here I will be avoiding him.

Butterfield Market at the corner of 85th Street and Madison Avenue is an excellent UES destination for high quality, gourmet groceries. The market offers an outstanding selection of fresh ingredients, along with delicious prepared meals that are perfect for busy, health conscious shoppers. They also carry rare and premium items such as caviar and jamón ibérico, plus a strong selection of cheeses and cured meats with equally tempting desserts. The friendly and personal service they provide also makes the grocery shopping experience that much better. Butterfield is reliable neighborhood favorite for quality, convenience, and great taste. Be sure to check out their other available locations nearby.
