Really disappointing experience at Lo Stuzzichino after seeing such glowing reviews. The bruschetta was nothing like the fresh tomato bruschetta we expected in this region. It was topped with sun dried tomatoes on plain toast and felt very underwhelming. My spaghetti with anchovies and walnuts was also surprisingly bland and seemed to use boxed pasta rather than fresh pasta, which was disappointing given the restaurant’s reputation and location in the Campania region. I actually had to ask for salt and pepper because the dish lacked seasoning and the anchovies had very little flavor.
The service also felt inattentive throughout the evening. It took quite a long time just to get salt and pepper because no one was really checking in on our table, and overall the staff did not come across as particularly warm or welcoming. The chef only appeared at the very end to bring the card machine, and while he was very pleasant it felt a little strange given how absent the service had been for the rest of the meal.
What made the experience especially disappointing is that we had recently eaten at Il Fienile nearby and had one of the most wonderful meals of our trip. Fresh pasta, beautifully seasoned food, generous portions, warm hospitality, and fantastic value. In comparison, Lo Stuzzichino felt much more like a tourist trap trading on reputation than a genuinely memorable dining experience.
Maybe we came on an off night, but unfortunately this meal was one of the biggest disappointments of our time in the Campania region.
