Passing through Germantown for the day we found this cafe and based on prior reviews decided to visit. It did not disappoint. The staff were so welcoming and kind! We had the falafel (slightly denser than one from the Middle East) but absolutely delicious, lentil soup and the chicken stew with sides on injera. Everything was packed with flavor, healthy and tasty. Main course portions are large! Highly recommend if you’re in the area!
As an East African, I can say this is the best Ethiopian food I've had so far. That’s a bold statement, but I stand by it. The dessert could have been better, but the main courses were amazing.
I had a delicious vegetarian four-course lunch at Salam café today. The lentils and cabbage were exquisite! The collards very good, and the Ethiopian bread some of the best I have tasted. The service is warm and friendly and the people behind the counter are knowledgeable and generous with their time and suggestions. This place is a true gem in Germantown!
First, I have to say my friend was very disappointed with the Shakshouka. She said it was mostly poorly spiced tomato sauce with very little substance.
Why five stars then? Because I'm writing the review and I LOVE the mild vegetarian platter. It is everything I could have hoped for. Salem Cafe has rocketed to my #1 local restaurant spot.
Salam cafe is a beautiful little gem of a restaurant. The food here is phenomenal packed with flavor! Their shakshuka was delicious and the homemade injera (a type of spongey bread) was so good! You gotta come and don’t miss out on dessert the chocolate baklava was incredible! This place was so good and if you are in the area you should definitely check it out ❤️
