Sukiyabashi Jiro

Visited Jiro’s at Nihonbashi Takashimaya main building 7th floor. This is a sister sushi restaurant of the luminous Sukiyabashi Jiro’s of “Jiro dreams of sushi” documentary. The chef has been running this restaurant for 50 years. No reservations are accepted so that you need to come early and wait in queue. Luckily not many people and I was seated right when they opened for lunch at 11am. Sat at sushi bar and ordered Omakase sushi lunch. Plenty of sushi and I was totally satisfied. $100 including tip and tax. Lunch is significantly less expensive than dinner. A good deal. Credit cards are accepted. Great sushi, service and atmosphere.

I saw a sign in the Takashimaya that said Sukibayashi Jiro and had to take a look. I had just eaten so I came back the next day at 11am and was seated right away. They had great set options for about 4000-6000 yen but I had to try the omakase at 13,000. As expected the sushi was great and they give you a choice of any additional piece at the end and I chose the uni. Definitely worth visiting.

One of the most overrated experiences we have ever had. We were treated very poorly from start to finish. As tourists who are not familiar with Japanese customs, nobody explained anything to us. Instead of helping us understand what was expected, the staff made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The experience itself was nothing special and absolutely not worth the money. We were charged around €500 per person for roughly 30 minutes of service. At that price, we expected professionalism and hospitality. What we got was the feeling that they were trying to get rid of us as quickly as possible. The worst part was how they treated my co-mother-in-law, who has diabetes. She briefly took out her phone to check something related to her condition, and the staff gave her disapproving looks and showed no patience whatsoever. They simply carried on without any consideration for her situation. The lack of empathy was shocking. This place may have a famous name, but fame does not equal quality. The service was cold, unfriendly, and far below the standards that such a reputation and price tag should guarantee. We left feeling ripped off, unwelcome, and extremely disappointed. I genuinely do not understand where the reputation comes from. Not recommended.

The fish very fresh, the relics have added a little sugar acidity medium. Better than any of the two fish markets at the same price.

This place, from service professionalism, from atmosphere, from food quality, is way below Michelin 2 Star level, not even qualified for 1 star. This is my worst Michelin experience among others. Hopefully this restaurant cannot represent Japan sushi level. I will NEVER visit again. See all the bad reviews, all the people are telling the truth.
