We had a great experience at Tenoshima as part of our honeymoon.
The service and environment were very welcoming without being overbearing. The drink menu had helpful descriptions (and a flavor chart for sake) which were very useful for choosing well. Staff were friendly and attentive.
The food was all tasty and a mix of more/less familiar with several memorable standouts. Overall the dishes/ingredients seemed more humble than other “fancy” meals I have had but still obviously expertly done and innovative.
Thank you for a wonderful evening!
First time trying out an omakase dinner. The 9 course (with a small extra because of my brother's birthday) didn't disappoint as the food was well prepared and had that elegance of Japanese fine dining. Both host were great and had fun chatting with them as they were able to speak to us in English.
I just simply cannot rave on how wonderful each of the dishes were, both in presentation and taste. The standout from this menu that impressed me the most was the Mackerel with Carrot Sauce and the Deep Fried Grouper.
I can also see why booking is essential because it did get busy as the evening went by. Also worth noting that the course is prepaid when you book, but any extras like drinks is charged back to the card you prepaid your booking with.
Thank you once again for this great meal we had.

Such an amazing experience. Its different to European Michelins, where they run around in suits being so posh. Here, you have a pleasant atmosphere, open kitchen, chef really making the food, talking to you, explaining. We enjoyed ourselves so much, definitely would come back next time in Tokyo

I was left disappointed. Until the next morning I couldn’t stop speaking on how dissatisfied my husband and I were left. Some dishes such as the boar with taro I chose to not finish as well as some bland soups served. The chef at some point
greets everyone that was there except us. But I really didn’t mind that. What I did mind was the disappointment served plate after plate. I would love to highlight the Spanish Mackerel with Ponzu, it was beautiful along with its drink pairing. Some dishes lacked salt most lacked texture. It was bland and boring. After 21 days in Japan eating at other non Michelin restaurants I was left feeling robbed of a night. We previously stayed a a ryokan were they served similar dishes in the same 8-10 course manner and with just that to compare this place was not it. They have staff who speak perfect English, short but nice. The ambience was dark and moody. The noise level was a moderate low being a small space the thing I could hear the most was the chef having lively conversation with the guests at the counter area. Overall, I do not recommend this place at all. We thanked the chef and left with what we could say was the worst meal in Japan 😔

Had a wonderful time at Tenoshima as part of our first trip to Japan. We had a 9 course meal and every dish was delightful and delicious. Plating was gorgeous, and the wine pairing selections were perfect. The sailfish may have been the best thing I ate for the entire trip. The staff took the time to explain each dish to us in English, including and English course menu. One member of their team had lived in the US so she was able to go in depth about the dishes and answer any questions we had about them. She even gave us a few recommendations of things to see in the city, such as the Christmas light show about 10min from the restaurant. The chef came over a few times to chat with us as well, he even brought out his whiskey stash and explained them to help choose a nightcap. The atmosphere was modern/classic, with gentle music. A great place to just vibe. This place has more than earned it's Star, has been one of the highlights of our trip, and I'll be recommending to anyone visiting Tokyo.
