Udatsu Sushi

It was a great experience for a vegetarian to taste vegetarian sushi omakase. Great space and impeccable service. Dining experience was excellent. However, the food failed to deliver relative to other Michelin star restaurants (for a vegetarian) at the price point charged.

Absolutely incredible experience. We went to the lunch omakase at the counter, but ordered the full dinner omakase and you will not regret it. Chef Udatsu was so gracious and kind to myself and my daughter (her first omakase). We had the non-alcoholic pairing and we were blown away! I can’t rate this place high enough!

I truly appreciate the chef for the time, effort, and creativity that went into this meal. However, I feel I should give my honest feedback. First, I believe the English communication of the staff needs to be improved. For a Michelin restaurant, I think basic English is essential, especially for international guests. I also hope the staff can speak a little slower and not rush through the explanations. Throughout the entire meal, I felt everything was delivered too quickly from the introductions to the pace of serving without much interaction with the guests. I have personally dined at around 30% of the Michelin sushi restaurants in Japan, so I understand the level of experience I am comparing this to. Unfortunately, the overall experience was not as enjoyable as I had hoped. There were quite a lot of fusion-style dishes instead of focusing on exceptional traditional nigiri. To be completely honest, many of the nigiri lacked depth of flavour, and the rice texture was firmer than expected rather than soft and well-balanced. Considering the price point, I don’t think the overall dining experience met the standard I was expecting. From a value perspective, I believe I could have had a much better sushi experience at other restaurants for a similar price. The sake selection was also quite limited. The available choices were rather uncommon, and I found it difficult to understand the explanations or recommendations being given. It left me unsure of what was actually being introduced. Overall, I am sorry to say that my experience was disappointing. I sincerely hope the restaurant continues to improve, and I genuinely wish the entire team all the best. Thank you for taking the time to read my honest feedback. — From someone who has dined at many Michelin restaurants across Japan.

A great omakase experience at Udatsu Sushi. Chef was very nice and the entire staff spoke English and was very professional. There were some mind blowing unique bites that are worth coming alone - smoked tuna (see video)x big tuna roll and the double sea urchin with crispy nori. I also did the non alcohol pairing which was very nice. It is not made in house but was very good and suited the dishes. Not many places in Japan do non alcoholic pairing so I appreciated it.

Udatsu Sushi was a fantastic meal and very memorable. It seemed a bit foreign leaning but was actually refreshing. The roll and hand roll was really nice and I was obsessed with the smoked tuna which was the highlight of the meal. The uni with fried seaweed block was great as well. The non alcoholic pairings were good but have had them at many other places too.
