Customer Perception
Customer feedback is mixed regarding drink consistency, with some experiencing great quality and others finding it mediocre. Service is generally described as friendly, though sometimes slow due to staff socializing. While the ambiance is praised for its beauty, seating is often perceived as uncomfortable, discouraging long stays. Some long-time patrons note a decline in coffee and food quality, citing bland espresso and less appealing breakfast items. However, many still highly recommend their lattes, Manresa croissants, breakfast sandwiches, and avocado toast. The venue can get very crowded on weekends.
Verve Coffee Roasters roasts its coffee daily in California and operates multiple locations across California (Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palo Alto) and Japan. They offer online ordering for their coffee beans.
Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends. Mornings are popular for coffee and breakfast items.

I’m torn on this review. Ordered the same drink 4 times and twice it was great, the other times just mediocre. It would be great if their drinks were more consistent since they also roast their own beans. Overall, the service is friendly and quick enough; however, it also seems like the staff spend a lot of time chit chatting/hanging out. This could be the vibe verve is going for but I don’t know. Food is expensive but their partnership with Manresa is The shop is gorgeous with natural light and greenery but the seating seems to be designed to be uncomfortable so you don’t stay long.
Ok so I’m gonna start with I love Verve- the coffee, special drinks, baked goods, beans, the cute cups, the seating, vibes. But today I was so mad. We were in line like 15mins bc there was 1 older gentleman at the register taking his time to literally FLIRT with every group in front of us (women) and it was already incredibly busy bc it’s Verve and there was a backlog of people waiting for drinks. Literally nothing like this I’ve seen ever at a Verve- some old white guy lording over the customers and slowing things down and literally nothing making any drinks- and 5 cute young women SWEATING and making these drinks and heating things up at a breakneck pace. So Verve Santa Cruz do better and get rid of the weirdo flirting, and please put the young woman in the polka dot shirt in charge because she was making drinks and stepped in to take orders in between. The people behind us were also talking mad BS about the old guy but no one wants to be linked in the review I guess. Pictured is old flirt and the poor woman who was in front of us forcing a smile.
Over the last year the quality has gone down at Verve in both their coffe and food. As big follower and fan of Verve since the very beginning here in Santa Cruz, you can now taste the difference from then and now. The espresso shot have become more bland and tasteless, and I can imagine this has to do to cut cost due to the ongoing changes in tariffs. Their food has also become extremely boring and sad. What used to be their beautiful fluffy egg sandwich has now become a tasteless paninni Starbucks style sausage egg sandwich. How disappointing! but such are the times we live in where all companies are cutting costs. I honestly now prefer a Sbux latte at this price point.
Santa Cruz has many excellent third-wave coffee shops, but this Verve has become my go-to. The lattes are always well made, the Manresa croissants and other pastries they stock are the best available in Santa Cruz, and the breakfast sandwich and avocado toast are excellent versions of type. I stop by for a post-lunch coffee most days, and the staff are very friendly (including several who know me by name at this point), and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for great coffee. It does get pretty crowded on weekends, so be warned.
wait the iced spiced cherry matcha latte was fire. very green and smooth and flavorful. the guy also said my name perfectly which was nice. highly recommend.
