Eckert’s Restaurant – A Perfect Family Stop on Our Drive Home
We stopped at Eckert’s for lunch with a group of 10 (5 adults and 5 kids) on our way home from St. Louis to Indy, and it was such a great choice. Even with a larger group, they were able to seat us quickly on a quiet Wednesday afternoon.
The menu is full of comforting classics, some with a fun twist. I really appreciate that they offer both a 10‑and‑under menu and a tween menu — it made ordering so much easier for our mixed‑age group. Everyone enjoyed their meals, especially the shoestring fries and the fried chicken, which were big hits all around.
After lunch, the kids loved redeeming their free candy stick coupons at the country store. The store itself is such a treat to explore, filled with everything from fresh produce and cheeses to home décor and products from Eckert’s own farm. Their bakery section is adorable too — we spotted the cutest dog‑shaped cakes for human dog lovers, plus themed dog cookies so pups don’t feel left out. Today’s were Easter/Spring themed and so cute.
It’s been almost 10 years since my last visit, and while I did miss the fried biscuits and apple butter that used to come with every meal, everything else was just as delicious and enjoyable as I remembered. Eckert’s still has that warm, welcoming charm that makes it a perfect stop for families.
We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in the area.
The food was great but the portion was small. Got the catfish and there was only one piece. While it was perfectly battered, the slaw was good, and the caeser salad was delicious (in place of the mac & cheese) I just wish there was more fish. Waiter was kind and atmosphere was cool. Will be back again to try something else.
Warm hearts providing excellent service. The food was wonderful. There is something on the menu for every taste. This morning i enjoyed a shareable pancake and a Cottage Cheese Berry Bless with a hot cider mug. Thank you Amber. 💯👍🏿😀
Welcoming atmosphere very family oriented and friendly people my egg Benedict’s was delicious and they have morning’s cocktails like strawberry mimosas.
We picked strawberries in the field then went to get some snacks. There was a live musician who took requests. A little loud but nice. We got the cider flight which was yummy but was served in plastic cups which wasn’t very exciting. Food was yummy.
