Joe’s BBQ in Kansas City absolutely lives up to the hype and reputation. From the moment you walk in, you can smell the incredible smoky aroma that lets you know you’re about to have authentic Kansas City barbecue. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, with perfectly balanced seasoning and smoke in every bite. The ribs, brisket, and burnt ends were outstanding, and the sides complemented everything perfectly. Even with the crowd, the atmosphere felt energetic and welcoming, making the entire experience memorable.
What really makes Joe’s BBQ special is the consistency and attention to quality. The staff was friendly, efficient, and handled the busy rush impressively well while still making customers feel welcomed. You can tell why this place is considered one of the best BBQ spots in Kansas City and even in the country. If you’re visiting Kansas City, Joe’s BBQ is an absolute must-try experience that delivers amazing food, great service, and true barbecue tradition all in one place!
Line went fair quick this was a true KC Bbq experience. Ribs fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. Thinly sliced brisket is moist and juicy. Bark is smoky and delicious. Big portions and the baked beans are a unique taste of sweet and savory.
I know some would call me crazy for giving this place five stars for atmosphere, but in my opinion, the “controlled chaos “ is part of what made this stop a memorable event. The line was pretty long. It moved really fast! The staff is a well oiled machine, taking your order, assembling meals, calling them out for pickup, clearing tables, and all other of this in a friendly, cheerful environment. The vibe saturates the clientele. And then, there’s the food. Oh yeahhhhh. So good! We both had the Z Man, the sandwich that is among the fame garnering items of n the menu. Truly the most moist and tender brisket I’ve had. I also had spicy slaw, which I loved. If you like BBQ, you owe it to yourself to try this place.
Fun BBQ restaurant at an old time gas station. It's really more like a restaurant that also has gas pumps. It was packed when we got there and we waited in line for a while. There's a fun atmosphere and decorations inside and also shaded seating outside. We were able to bypass the line by volunteering to sit on the patio. I had the Z-man brisket sandwich and it didn't disappoint. They also had Big Red ice cream for $5.99 for a half pint which I tried and really enjoyed. It had a mild taste of Big Red Soda in a creamy smooth ice cream. Overall, a great experience with great customer service.
Definitely feels more like a restaurant that happens to serve gas. We recommend the burnt ends, which had a richer Texas brisket style quality than the brisket. I actually liked the vinegary barbecue sauce in a big bottle on the brisket more than the sweet small bottle barbecue. I did not put sauce on the burnt ends. The macaroni and cheese is more creamy sauce forward than cheddar. You can get beer here. The restaurant is well run with. Long line that moves quickly and very fast bus service so the tables didn’t feel sticky.
