We first sat down and were immediately offered food that seemed to be on the house, but later found out were R$12 each. We took one so as to not be impolite in the face of social pressure, but felt obligated to do this due to the servers insistance.
The servers repeatedly and frequently interrupted both our conversation and our meal to comment on how we were eating. For example, the fifth interruption was when my friend added soy sauce to her meal, a server rudely came over to tell her that she shouldn't add it since there was already soy sauce in the dish. My friend was only adding it because she enjoys soy sauce, and we both found this to be extremely condescending.
They then came up to me to tell me to eat my food quicker or else it would get "rubbery".
We were going to purchase dessert, but found the service so disgustingly off putting that it ruined our mood and our night out. I asked for the check as quickly as possible and we left. When I asked for the check, the waiter asked multiple times in a row if we were going to order dessert. Trying to pressure us into it before we paid. Unfortunately we could not stand any more rudeness and wished to go home as soon as possible.
The total of the meal was R$200 for 2 appetizers, a soup, 1 entree, the unwanted daily special, and 2 waters.
Absolutely deplorable service and we will not be returning. サンパウロで一番最低なサービスです。
Pictured: half eaten food because we completely lost our appetite.
EDIT: The otoshi was not explained to us until after we had already accepted one, which is a very predatory practice.
Additionally, the server telling me to "hurry up and eat" was not in reference to a dish that even had nori on it. It was the yakidofu, which is fried, seasoned, and served as is.
While the dessert offer was yes most likely part of normal service, it felt desperate as we were packing up and leaving when they offered it.
Another thing that happened was that servers would interrupt in the middle of us clearly having a conversation: talking over me loudly.
As i am a foreigner i am not able to come talk in person. I am sure you understand, as i would not ask you to buy a 1000USD plane ticket to resolve this.
While i respect the chef and food (as it really was quite delicious), the servers frankly need to be fired. I will happily dine at your izayaka once more when their behavior has been addressed internally. The chef alone gets a glowing review from me.
Thank you!
amazing food, flavours are really authentic! you should try their grilled fish, I’d say that’s their specialty! service is also very kind! thanks vitor for providing a great experience! thanks to the kitchen for cooking an awesome experience
Excelent izakaya in Liberdade, we just ordered some appetizers to start: Gobo, Nassu and Takenoko. Then we had the Yakizakana: Grilled Anchova, 1kg. In the menu you can also find classics recipes such as sushi and sashimi and many option of robatas (kushi mona o).
Best Japanese food I have had in years. Father son duo that cook with soul for over 40 years. The fish was the most crispy moist fish simply from grilling. Skewers were perfect. Miso soup and everything made in house. Come for the food, stay for the best playlist you could imagine.
I enjoyed the experience so much i forgot to take pictures.
Traditional japanese izakaya where your orders are grilled over charcoal. I've tried the chicken and shitake skewers seasoned with a slightly sweet sauce and grilled eggplant topped with misso - delicious. Despite being an side dish, the Ague Dashi (fried tofu in japanese stock) is an highlight, you must try it.
