Great experience!!
The food was phenomenal, I had the Clams to start and the Mullet to follow
And finished with a half dozen Madeleines.
The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating
The chef is doing something really special, and a fellow West Yorkshire lad.
We will be back!
The staff are so friendly and they focus on local produce - food is fantastic! Will definitely be back.
Update - Came back for the fried chicken sandwich on bank holidays - it did not disappoint.
Great food but unfortunately the experience was marred by lacklustre and disjointed service.
Most of our party had the Rump sharer steak which was delicious. Assortment of snacks and starters/sides were also good. Good selection of drinks and the beers on tap were fresh and tasty.
Service unfortunately didn't live up to the quality of the food. Drinks slow to arrive and pints served were a Pilsner rather than the Pale Ales ordered - replacements were offered but we had already waited more than 10 minutes for drinks to be brought out so made do. One drink was forgotten and needed to be chased up, along with one snack order.
Mains were very slow to arrive and there was a period of at least 30 minutes where we were left waiting after having finished snacks/starters. Steaks were ordered with different levels of doneness to meet requirements of pregnant women in our party - when asked which was which upon delivery the server replied 'I don't know' without any sign of inclination to check with the kitchen or anyone else so we were left to figure it out ourselves.
Payment process was a complete disaster. Initially our deposit of £20 pp wasn't deducted from the total. We queried it and the same bill without the deposit deduction was returned to us saying it was correct. Queried again and then another bill was brought out to us, with the correct deduction but it was lower than we had anticipated. Presented the bill to the server at the till and queried whether it was right as it seemed low compared to what we were expecting and we were told yes it was correct, so paid and left. 2 minutes later we are flagged down leaving the car park telling us that the bill was incorrect and we had to go back in to the restaurant and pay the difference.
Wow, worth the hype! This has been on my to do list since searching for places in Edinburgh and this getting called out as the best and worth the drive out of the city! Having driven over an hour to get here it needed to be good and it was! Excellent attentive service, great menu choices which delivered equally on aesthetics and flavour, lovely calm and relaxed environment whilst still feeling special and topped off with wine list which did not disappoint.
I will never ever shut up about how PERFECT this restaurant is. It’s quickly become a family favorite and staple of every St Andrew’s visit. Menu changes daily, with perfectly cooked proteins accompanied by creative and delicious sides. We had fried skate fish, pork chop, and lamb chop. To top off a perfect menu and atmosphere, the service exceeds every expectation.
