Decided to try this place for the first time. We ordered a couple of Tacos Sonia and the Brisket tacos. Also, we got a Mushroom Quesadilla.
We started with the Taco Sonia. It was very flavorful and the tortilla was awesome. The salsa was a bit spicy, but really tasty with the taco.
The Brisket Taco was good, but it was overshadowed by the Sonia.
Lastly we shared the Mushroom. Quesadilla. It was very good as well with fresh mushrooms. We really enjoyed it.
I remarked that this is probably my number 1 taco in LA, which is saying something!
We came here on a Saturday late morning and the entire Mercado was packed. Get here early as the word is out.
Wow! Absolute amazed by the food from Komal. I read about this place from the LA Times Best Restaurants list, and it did not disappoint. I loved the large food hall it was in, which was very festive and authentic. Only downside is it is hard to grab a seat, many people go here, it was very packed! The service was super helpful, kind, and made great recommendation. The food was exceptional and the tortillas were the star of the show. I personally loved the skirt steak and crispy potato taco as well as the cheese-stuffed plantains in mole sauce. Everything was a home run, from the food to the service to the ambiance, highly recommend!
Located inside Mercado La Paloma. One of the best Mexican dishes we ever had. They make their own fresh masa everyday. The corn tortilla is delicious. The owner used to work for Holbox. She saved up and open this restaurant. Amazing accomplishment. Komal has been designated Bib Gourmand. Service staffs were friendly, helpful and attentive. We will definitely be back.
If you like corn, you will like Komal. Even the tiles are like corn kernels!
As someone who doesn’t typically like corn tortillas, Komal’s dedication to the craft of masa is not lost on me. The fragrance from the tortillas really highlights all of their other ingredients, whether it’s the meat, cactus, or potatoes. The textures and flavors completely surpassed my expectations overall.
We got the tlacoyos, taco sonia, tacos de suadero, tacos de costilla, and the flor de calabaza quesadilla. We loved all of them!! The quesadilla is a sleeper hit and probably the most-loved overall with the sweetness from the squash blossom shining through, although if I had to pick a personal favorite, it would probably be the tacos de costilla with the caramelized onions!
The items are also surprisingly good for sharing, and that way you can try more things! There’s no line (especially compared to Holbox) even though they’re on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and the service is very fast. Honestly, it’s just a matter of time before this place blows up!
Went to Mercado Paloma for Holbox, but didn’t want to wait an hour in line. Stumbled up Komal, and very glad we did. Hands down the best corn tortilla I have ever had. The tacos suaderos were tender, juicy, beefy perfection. Their salsa roja had the perfect amount of heat and smokiness. And the elote loaf dessert dish was delicious without being overly sweet. 10/10!
