Key information

La Pergola is Rome's only three-Michelin-starred restaurant, offering a luxurious fine dining experience with breathtaking panoramic views of the Eternal City. Located within the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria, it recently underwent a refurbishment, with its new design paying tribute to Roman colors and materials like Travertine marble. The restaurant is celebrated for its technically masterful and refined cuisine.

Customer perception

Customers overwhelmingly praise La Pergola for its exceptional food quality, technical mastery, and depth of flavor, consistently affirming its three Michelin stars. The unparalleled ambiance and stunning rooftop views are frequently highlighted as a major draw. Service is described as exemplary, seamless, and attentive without being intrusive. While many find the experience expensive, they consider it well worth the price. Portions are noted as generous for fine dining. Some recent feedback on decor is mixed; while the restaurant has been refurbished to reflect Roman aesthetics, one reviewer felt it still had an '80s feel. A strict dress code is enforced, which some guests found off-putting.

Additional details

La Pergola offers both a 7 or 10-course tasting menu and a 2-4 course à la carte option. A 7-course tasting menu was noted at 300 Euro per person, with a total bill for two guests reaching around $1200. Chef Heinz Beck is known to personally greet guests at their tables, adding a personal touch to the dining experience.

My second visit to Rome and just on last minute I was able to catch a table in the only 3 Michelin Star Restaurant in Rome: La Pergola. Situated on the 9 th floor of the Rome Cavalieri (A Waldorf Astoria Hotel) it was another iconic place with a breathtaking view. But I was not here to catch a glimpse of the eternal city, instead I was searching to taste the high end of culinary art in my first visit to a three star restaurant. What was the expectation? I mean the chefs of the one and two star restaurants I visited before were no amateurs, and I was cooked into culinary heaven a lot of times before. Could La Pergola really go beyond and above, or would it only be a difference in an even more impressive list of waters and wines? Michelin itself explains their star system very simple. A one star restaurant is always worth a visit, a 2 star restaurant is always worth a detour and 3 star restaurant is always worth a journey. From this point of view I can say the setting was set right. After I was unable to catch a table on my Oktober trip to Rome (I went to Imàgo instead) I planned my journey solely to finally visit La Pergola. So the only question that remains is: „Was it worth it?“ the simple answer is YES. La Pergola is definitely worth a trip to Rome on its own. The service is perfect, but I have seen perfect service before, the food is perfectly crafted, but I have seen perfectly crafted food before. What I didn’t see before, at least not in this density, was that most of the 10 courses really hit me with surprise in a deep form of satisfaction and joy. Finding myself far beyond my expectations on most of the dishes made me certain, even if La Pergola would be in the dark depths of nowhere, I would still want to go there to try their tasting menu! Thanks for a perfect evening to the wonderful La Pergola Team.

Reservations for La Pergola were made well in advance, and the confirmation process was handled with the kind of precision one expects—yet still appreciates—at the very highest level of dining. The restaurant proactively reconfirmed our booking prior to arrival, with particular attention paid to food allergies. My daughter’s nut allergy was addressed thoroughly and professionally, without drama or hesitation, conveying both competence and genuine care. This set the tone for the evening and immediately inspired confidence. From arrival onward, the experience unfolded flawlessly. The welcome was warm yet composed, the pacing deliberate, and the dining room itself exuded quiet authority—an atmosphere that reflects confidence earned over decades rather than one that seeks to impress through excess. Seating, menu presentation, and initial engagement were all handled with calm precision. The cuisine fully justified the restaurant’s three Michelin stars. Each course demonstrated technical mastery, depth of flavor, and classical discipline executed at the highest level. Portions were generous without ever compromising refinement. This was luxurious dining in the truest sense: abundant, assured, and unapologetically complete. The progression of the meal was particularly well judged, building steadily toward an elaborate and indulgent conclusion. The dessert course—stacked, expansive, and celebratory—was almost excessive in volume, yet impossible to resist. It served as a fitting final statement to an evening defined by generosity and confidence rather than restraint. Service throughout was exemplary. The staff operated with seamless coordination, attentiveness without intrusion, and a level of polish that never felt rehearsed. Timing was impeccable, explanations were concise and informed, and every interaction reinforced the sense that this was a dining room functioning at the peak of its craft. La Pergola stands exactly where it should in the Michelin hierarchy. The three stars are not aspirational here; they are fully realized. This is a restaurant that represents the pinnacle of fine dining—technically, emotionally, and experientially—and it delivers on that promise without compromise. For those seeking the epitome of gastronomic excellence in Rome, La Pergola remains an unassailable benchmark.

Anyone who rates this restaurant less than five stars doesn’t know what they’re talking about. It’s expensive, but you know that before you arrive. I’ve been to more than a dozen Michelin three star restaurants all over the world. This rates in the top five. The food is mind blowing. The people are not stuffy. My only criticism would be the decor. It needs an update. Otherwise, perfection. And, if you are booked out 90 days in advance, why change anything?

how to ruin an evening in one step; it was the first stop on our wedding trip to rome; when we entered the restaurant my husband was told that his outfit was not good enough to eat in the restaurant and he was forced to change into a ugly blue ill fitting blazer. and this in a city that prides itself on its sense of style, I wonder what #francescorossi #marni would have to say about this. one star goes to the view, the second to the food, which was ok in a fussy 80s kind of way. overrated and last century.
