紫美 (Murasaki)

Key Information

Murasaki (紫美) is an exclusive Japanese omakase restaurant located at 181 Hollywood Road on Hong Kong Island. It is renowned for its extremely difficult reservations, often cited as one of the top three hardest-to-book restaurants in Hong Kong, largely due to its intimate setting of only 10-11 seats. The dining experience seamlessly blends traditional sushi with exceptional Kappo (cooked dishes), often featuring seasonal ingredients and a subtle Taiwanese influence. The restaurant is owned by wine merchants, offering a well-curated wine list, including high-value champagne, which can also be purchased for takeaway.

Customer Perception

Customers consistently praise Murasaki for its superb omakase experience, high-quality fresh ingredients, and attentive, friendly service. Many highlight the exceptional cooked dishes (Kappo) as particularly memorable, sometimes even more so than the sushi, though the sushi is still considered fresh and of high standard. The 'Taiwanese touch' on some dishes is noted as a delightful and unexpected twist. The wine list is appreciated for its reasonable prices. The primary challenge for diners is securing a reservation, which requires booking months in advance.

Additional Details

Murasaki was opened by two wine merchants with no prior restaurant experience, who have successfully launched two popular Japanese restaurants within three years. They are known for personally hosting guests and sharing their extensive wine knowledge. The restaurant offers a selection of champagne and wine for takeaway at competitive prices.
