Man I absolutely love this place. Went here for my birthday dinner for the 1st and it forsure met and exceeded my expectations. When you pull up it honestly don’t even look like it’s open, it’s very discreet and blends in with the street. Once you walk in the atmosphere is very intimate and chill. It’s dark but the tables are very well lit. Service was incredible. The waiter had great recommendations, and even told us a dish that I should probably steer clear from because it’s an acquired taste. I appreciate complete honesty from waiters. I got my steak cooked medium, and it was soooo flavorful and cooked absolutely perfectly. My sister loved her chicken she got. The pasta was good, not as good as the steak and chicken. If you go there forsure get a steak. The beef tallow appetizer with wagyu candle was pretty dope, and so was the meat ball. Cocktails were good. I got a Paloma and was hooked so I only ordered that. But was such a good Paloma. Desserts AMAZING. The biscoff cheesecake was just incredible. Carrot cake is top tier too. Overall 10/10 (my daughter says 11/10 😂) no complaints at all. DEFINITELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Celebrated my wife’s birthday here. Service was excellent. Food was great. Caesar salad was the best Caesar salad I have ever had. My wife and I got two filet mignon’s and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Sides we got the whipped potatoes and green beans. The whipped potatoes were too buttery and thin for my liking wish it would be less buttery and more thicker that is my only complaint. Green beans were excellent. We got the brisoff cheesecake which is like a caramel cheesecake in reality and that was really good. Overall experience was excellent. It’s a small place wish the place was bigger. I recommend them to anybody to give them a try. I definitely will be coming back. But on a 1-5 scale I got to give them a 4 because of the whipped mashed potatoes and the place should be bigger. If they fix those two things. They will be the top steakhouse in Chicago and I’m being serious about it. My wife and I were really impressed. Thank you Butcher and the bear for a great birthday dinner for my wife.
Had such a great date night at Butcher and the Bear! The atmosphere felt upscale but still cozy, and every dish we ordered was so well executed. Highlights for us were the filet (perfectly cooked), the black cod, the whipped potatoes, and the crepes for dessert. We also loved starting with the bread service and himachi.
Service was attentive without feeling rushed, and the whole experience felt special from start to finish. Definitely a spot I’d come back to for a nice dinner in Chicago. ✨
One of my favorite steakhouses in the city! The vibe is dark and moody, but the servers and bartenders are so warm and inviting! The filet is my go-to and absolutely do not skip the whipped potatoes 🤩 they’re the best thing on the menu!! We celebrated my birthday here and the desserts were absolutely delicious. Compliments to the chef & pastry chef!
All I can say is — WOW! From the moment we walked through the door, we had an absolutely phenomenal experience. It was our first time dining here and we were celebrating my husband’s birthday. He was warmly greeted with birthday wishes right away, setting the perfect tone for the evening.
The service was outstanding — attentive, gracious, and genuinely kind. Everyone who approached our table exuded warmth. Our server, Mario, was fantastic — sharp, friendly and full of great recommendations (and yes, definitely a “smart guy” 😉 inside joke!).
The wagyu tasting board was a true standout; brilliantly crafted and literally melted in our mouths. Honestly, it surpassed any other steakhouse experience we’ve had in Chicago.
To top it off, we were treated to a beautiful birthday dessert sampler. Every dessert was executed perfectly, but the carrot cake stole my heart.
All in all, it was a birthday to remember — my husband loved every minute of it. Thank you for making it so special!
