The Lighthouse is a renowned coastal restaurant located in Aldeburgh, known for its focus on locally sourced seafood and Suffolk-reared meats. It offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, described by some as having an unusual, unpretentious charm reminiscent of a school classroom, which allows the quality of the food to take center stage. The restaurant also features a rear courtyard for outdoor dining.
Customers consistently praise The Lighthouse for its superb food, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere. Common themes include the freshness of the fish, generous portion sizes, and the deliciousness of dishes like fish soup, seabass, and fish pie. Staff are frequently described as friendly, attentive, and providing a warm welcome. While some noted the initial impression might be more casual café-like, any doubts quickly fade once the high-quality food arrives. The pricing is generally considered reasonable for the quality and variety offered. A minor point of feedback mentioned the outdoor courtyard could benefit from more greenery.
The 'Affo Lowry' dessert is highlighted as a house specialty. The restaurant prides itself on using local ingredients, including seafood from the coast and meats from Suffolk farms.
The restaurant can get very busy in the evenings, particularly on a Saturday. Arriving earlier in the evening (e.g., around 6 PM on a Saturday) might offer a quieter experience initially, before it fills up.
