Came here after seeing it on a best gastropubs list. Fab location and friendly service.
The food was a bit of a mixed bag though. The crab starter was tasty, but the roast pork belly had its ups and downs. The broccoli was al dente, the pork belly was mediocre, but the roast potatoes was another story in itself. And the gravy… let’s just say it left me pondering what makes a truly great gravy.
All in all, it did get me thinking about what makes a really good roast. Sadly, I didn’t find the answer here. Soz
There is a reason this is one of the most highly regarded gastropubs with the best Sunday roast in London. Highly recommend the Côte de beouf. Perfectly cooked with all the trimmings and an excellent frozen marg for those lazy Sundays.
Best roast I’ve had in London. Great food, friendly staff and amazing atmosphere. Even better, they were dog friendly! Heath was a fantastic host and made sure we were all well looked after. We will definitely be back
We booked The Red Lion after spotting some glowing reviews on social media. The place looked fantastic, so I was genuinely excited to give it a go.
It’s a beautiful pub—bustling and lively—with a connected cocktail bar outside and a tented outdoor space that I imagine gets uncovered in summer.
Our waiter was attentive and personable, and the menu had loads of tempting options. We chose to share the beef cheek and bone marrow pie as our main, and kicked things off with a couple of starters. The Korean fried chicken wings were just lukewarm when they arrived, which was a shame, but the Korean fried cauliflower was excellent.
We brought a birthday cake along, so didn’t get around to trying the desserts.
As for the main event—the pie was a bit of a letdown. Too much pastry which overpowered the meat, and the beef cheek itself lacked depth of flavour. And I say that as someone who loves a good crust! My wife had the chicken schnitzel, which was well cooked and really tasty.
I’m glad we went—it’s a great setting and clearly a popular spot—but I think I just made the wrong call on the main given the other options on the menu.
Absolutely fantastic experience at The Red Lion and Sun! We started with fresh, creamy burrata paired perfectly with ripe tomatoes, and the oysters were beautifully fresh and briny. For mains, the lobster and spaghetti was rich, indulgent, and perfectly balanced, while the jerk chicken had bold, smoky flavors with just the right amount of spice. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. A truly memorable meal, highly recommend! Will definitely be back soon.
