After many years in New York, I finally tried Tompkins Square Bagels, and it absolutely did not disappoint. Easily one of the best bagels I’ve had in the city so far. I kept it simple with a toasted salted bagel with butter, and it tasted incredibly fresh, perfectly chewy, and warm in all the right ways. My boyfriend got an everything bagel with three eggs, cheddar cheese, and bacon, and it was just as solid. Classic, no-frills, done right. Definitely living up to the hype. 🥯
We had a wonderful experience at Thompson Square Bagels in the East Village, and it’s definitely a place I’d be happy to return to.
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, with a cozy, neighborhood feel that immediately puts you at ease. The service was friendly and relaxed, even though the place was quite busy when we arrived. There was a steady flow of customers, and while seating isn’t always guaranteed, the overall vibe remained pleasant and comfortable. 🙌🏻 The selection of bagels and spreads was very solid, offering something for everyone. Most importantly, the bagels themselves were incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. They had great texture and flavor, clearly made with care and quality ingredients. The coffee was also excellent!!! And I love good coffee 😅 flavorful and well prepared. making it a perfect match for the bagels.
Even with the crowd, the space felt lively in a positive way rather than overwhelming. It’s the kind of place that feels like a local favorite for a reason: simple, tasty, and consistently good.
So!! Thompson Square Bagels offers great food, a friendly atmosphere, and a genuine neighborhood experience. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be coming back again.❤️❤️

Tried Tompkins Square Bagels for the first time today (Christmas Eve!), and I'm already hooked. The bagels are fresh, hand-rolled, and perfectly chewy—thick and doughy with that ideal kettle-boiled crust. What really blew me away was the insane variety: so many bagel flavors (French Toast, everything, sesame, and more) and endless house-made cream cheeses and spreads to choose from. I had a tough time deciding!
Service was quick and friendly, even on a holiday—staff kept the line moving smoothly. And the prices? Surprisingly reasonable for NYC quality; great value without feeling overcharged.
If you're in the East Village, this spot is a must. Already planning my next visit!

If you are even remotely serious about bagels, Tompkins Square Bagel is worth the hype and then some.
We stopped in while visiting New York City, and it quickly became one of my favorite food moments of the trip. This is not a fully vegan shop, but the number of vegan options offered alongside the regular menu is genuinely impressive and makes it an ideal stop for mixed groups.
The vegan cream cheese selection is outstanding. Sun-dried tomato, spinach artichoke, garlic herb, veggie, plain, scallion, and more. Every option was creamy, flavorful, and exactly what you want with a classic New York bagel. As a longtime vegan, having this many choices felt intentional and exciting.
The bagels themselves are exactly what you hope for in NYC. Fresh, chewy, and perfectly balanced. It is rare to find a place that serves both vegan and non-vegan customers so thoughtfully, and Tompkins Square Bagel truly gets it.
I loved it and cannot wait to go back. I may or may not have strongly encouraged them to consider opening a Raleigh location. Until then, I will happily make this a must-stop every time I am in New York City.

Bagels and cream cheese choices are amazing. Huge selection. The store has enough room for 75-100 people to wait indoors which is nice when it’s cold outside. Line moves reasonably fast but once you order it became slow. Still, great bagels and lives up to the hype.
