Extremely disappointing and very overpriced.
We came to Azul Condesa expecting a special dining experience, especially given its reputation and the prices, but unfortunately there was very little about our meal that felt special.
To start, the ambiance was rather sad and nothing memorable. Even worse, the table we were given had a leak from the roof directly above where I was sitting.
As for the food, we ordered the ant eggs after our waiter highly recommended them. When I say they tasted like nothing, I mean NOTHING. For an appetizer that cost around $30 USD, I expected something interesting or memorable, but there was virtually no flavor.
My husband had the duck with mole, which was okay, but certainly nothing exceptional. My son ordered the chiles en nogada, which at around $40 USD was probably the most overpriced dish of the meal. It wasn’t bad, but it was nothing special either. At that price, I expected a beautiful presentation or something to make the dish stand out. Instead, it came by itself with a rather lame ribbon decoration, and that was it.
I had the Oaxacan dark mole enchiladas, and unfortunately they were the worst dish I’ve had in quite a while. The chicken was dry and the entire dish lacked flavor. I ate it because I was hungry, not because I was enjoying it.
The most telling part of the evening was that afterward, my husband and son stopped for tacos at a little hole-in-the-wall place because they wanted to actually enjoy something before the night was over. Those tacos were far more satisfying than anything we ate here.
We have eaten at many high-end restaurants and don’t mind paying higher prices for excellent food and a memorable experience. This simply wasn’t one. In a city with such an incredible food scene, Azul Condesa was a major disappointment.
Really enjoyed my experience at Azul Condesa. The vibes were amazing and the service was genuinely great throughout the meal. The servers were super sweet, attentive, and made us feel very welcomed. The presentation of the food was also incredible, every dish looked beautifully plated and very thoughtfully prepared.
That said, while everything looked stunning, the flavors just didn’t fully land for us personally. Nothing was bad by any means, it just wasn’t really suited to our tastes and felt like it lacked a bit of flavor overall. Still, the atmosphere and hospitality alone made it a memorable spot worth visiting.
I’ll put this into my top 50 dining experiences ever. Their mole duck is SO good. I love the way they have a mezcal menu with maps and ratings so you can get a bit of knowledge about mezcal. Their food is just all to die for. Every dish we got was perfection. Our waiter really gave us some good suggestions and made our dining experience all
The better. It gets packed quick. We were lucky we got there just before it opened as we didn’t have reservations. Don’t miss this place.
We had a great experience at Azul. The menu was approachable, servers were helpful, and food was good! We really enjoyed the gorditas and tortilla soup. We would only advise choosing a different entree as the mole enchiladas were not our favorite. We would recommend Azul!
Very nice and upper-scale dinner experience. Overall a bit pricey but enjoyable.
We were guided upstairs although downstairs seemed more lively and warmer. All patio upstairs were fully open on the chilly night we went there. We asked that they close the windows but still had to wear our jackets throughout the whole dinner. I noticed everyone sitting upstairs were doing the same…
Service was good.
Food-wise, I had the Enchiladas de Mole Negro Oaxaqueño. They were good but not the best I had. My friend had the Empipianadas rellenas de minilla de camarón. As per her, they were just ok but quite tasteless.
But, the dessert was worth the whole dinner. We shared the Pay de Naranja Agria and it was seriously to die for, delicate orange taste, crunchy delicious almond crust. It was a delight.
