They say first impressions last! Well, my first wasn’t as good as my second. I had a much better experience second time around. The seating was good. I made reservations so there was no wait time. Servers were polite and offered great service. Food was great! The wine and champagne suggestions were off the rock! I will be back!
A comfortable place with nice view of the Garmercy Park. Perfect for people watching. Overpriced food and lame service.
Went for brunch over the weekend and ordered a bunch of plates. The chef's basket was great. All the other were not impressive. The classic pasta Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe was too salty and the pasta overcooked. The brussel sprouts were mostly burned. Our server was slow and indifferent: no smile and never asked once how's everything. When we asked for a box for the leftover she even packed the bones. No wonder this is a no tipping restaurant because I really didn't feel like tipping LOL.
Went for lunch but it was awesome. I had prosciutto and mozzarella for antipasto and the ham was so tender and tasteful, so as the mozzerella. The pasta was great too.
There were great selection of wine and it said "BAROLO bar" at the bar at the entrance which I would definitely like to try next time.
You will need reservation to get a table.
I can't say enough good things about Maialino. First, the staff is top notch from the moment you walk through the door, to your server and wine service--impeccable. Food allergies? No problem and always attentive to my needs. As for the food, as an admitted carnivor that eats super low carb, let's just say that I was over the moon with their selection, quality products and perfect execution. I've had nearly all of their main courses, but to this day, always look forward to the roasted pig. Just wow! Another amazing meal at Maialino.
One liner review - hype over Cacio e Pepe was overrated.
We heard so many good things about this place especially about Cacio e Pepe (literally cheese and pepper) and Amatriciana pastas. We ordered both and while I enjoyed amatriciana I was quite disappointed in cacio e pepe. It reminded me of a mac n cheese in pasta.
Some reviews say cacio e pepe pasta was too salty but the saltiness was just about right, but it was rather a bit bland. Not sure if it needed more talk but it was just ok.
I enjoyed the texture of Amatriciana pasta more. Their quanciale in this pasta was the best I have tasted ever, very rich in flavor and both crisp/fatty at the same time.
Service wasn’t particularly friendly but practical and professional. They don’t get tips so they don’t have to be friendly.
Tip: Last-minute booking is pretty doable. I called the day before my intended visit during peak vacation period and they were able to squeeze me a spot at 5:30 PM. Call them and see if they can make you a seating.
I took out one star because I expected a lot more in Cacio e Pepe pasta.
