Karaván definitely lives up to the hype. The variety of food and drinks is amazing, and there’s something for everyone no matter what you’re in the mood for. It was also where I had the best lāngos of my entire trip!
Even though it was pretty busy, I was surprised by how much seating and standing room there was. It never felt too crowded, and it was easy to find a spot to enjoy my food.
Was it worth a detour?
100% a must if you’re in Budapest. Perfect spot to grab something quick, fun, and really satisfying.
What about the food?
You have to try the lángos burger you won’t be disappointed. Messy, indulgent, and exactly what you want from a place like this.
How was the service?
Fast and efficient across the stalls. Lots of movement, so things keep flowing.
What’s the venue like?
Outdoor food court with great vibes. Always busy, but that also means tables free up pretty quickly.
Anything that could be better?
Bring your own napkins (and maybe some cutlery). It’s proper hand food, so be ready to get messy if you’re not prepared.
It is a great place, tho it seemed way too crowded on other days we passed by. It is a place with multiple food truck style restaurants. We had:
1) Langos Burger
Great concept and a very impressive-looking dish. The lángos “bun” itself was amazing, but the meat and sauce were only average — similar to a mid-level burger place. Considering the price, it might be skippable, though it’s definitely a niche dish you don’t see everywhere.
2) Crunchy Chicken
Good chicken fingers with a nice blue cheese sauce. Solid quality, but nothing particularly memorable.
Fun spot to grab some traditional food, but the menu leans quite heavily toward burgers, so there isn’t a huge amount of variety. We had the lángos with sheep’s cheese, which was amazing and a great option to try.
That said, it felt a bit overpriced for what it was. Worth visiting once, but there are so many incredible food spots in the city that you might want to explore elsewhere too.
First time visiting Budapest and had some yummy freshly made Langos at this alley lined with food stalls.
Lángos is a specialty food in Hungary.
It’s a deep-fried flatbread usually topped with garlic, sour cream, and cheese but there is a plethora of toppings you can choose from. Mine had sour cream, salami and cheese.
Really enjoyed the taste and texture of my meal.
Beer was sadly served in a plastic cup and comes with a deposit fee of HUF500, approx USD1.65. You get your money back when you return the cup along with the small orange coloured token.
