Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine that developed after World War II. It is defined by its method of cooking food on an iron griddle, known as a teppan. The word combines "teppan," referring to this metal plate, with "yaki," meaning grilled, broiled, or pan-fried. In Japan, teppanyaki encompasses various dishes prepared on a teppan, such as steak, shrimp, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and monjayaki.
