🌶️ Chongqing Spicy Diced Chicken
It brought back that classic joy I had when eating in Chongqing—digging through piles of chilies to find tender pieces of meat! The chicken was fried to absolute perfection, with a great balance of numbing spiciness, savory depth, and rich umami flavor.
🐷 Dry Pot Pork Intestines
They use only the best part of the large intestine. One bite and it literally bursts with savory juices in your mouth! No unpleasant aftertaste at all. The ratio of Sichuan peppercorns to chilies is spot on—super flavorful and goes perfectly with rice.
🐷 Twice-Cooked Pork (Homestyle Recipe)
This dish is stir-fried with broad bean paste and fermented black beans, giving it a deep, savory aroma. Unlike other places that use dark soy sauce for color, this version really highlights the rich, distinctive fragrance of the fermented beans.
🌱 Chives with Dried Tofu
This has become one of my go-to dishes lately—I order it everywhere I go. Here, they don’t over-season it; it lets you fully enjoy the fresh, bright aroma of the chives and the natural bean flavor of the tofu.
🐚 Sliced Whelks with Green Sichuan Peppercorns
Generous portion of whelk meat! However, since the other dishes were quite bold and heavy in flavor, this one tasted a bit milder by comparison. I did detect a subtle hint of mustard flavor in it, though.
Signature Grilled Fish
Wonderfully bold and fragrant with a rich, spicy kick. The fish meat is firm and tender, while the bones at the head and tail turn perfectly crisp and savoury. The vegetables cooked alongside – especially the puffy tofu – soak up every bit of that delicious sauce, making it absolutely perfect with rice.
Spicy Prawn‑Style Braised Pork Knuckle
Falls effortlessly off the bone the very second you touch it. The skin is luxuriously soft and sticky, and the lean meat stays tender and moist, never dry. That spicy prawn‑infused sauce is so good, I could easily eat three bowls of rice with it!
Sliced Beef and Offal in Chilli Sauce
The toasted crushed peanuts on top are absolute perfection, and the whole dish is made in the most authentic, traditional style.
Excellent vegan options and a great choice if you love spicy food ❤️
The portions are more than generous and really quite delicious.
I felt the staff here were extremely professional when dealing with aggressive customers. I admired how they remained graceful when the two tables around me behaved in such a classless way. Highly recommend that you read the menu and understand what you're ordering.
One of the best Sichuan restaurants in London, easily. I’ve been coming to Barshu for years and the quality is still incredibly consistent. The braised pork shank was super tender, the boiled beef had the perfect balance of numbing spice, and even the simple tofu dish was so refreshing between all the rich flavours.
Loved the atmosphere as well — busy, lively, and full of people clearly here for the food. Such a comfort place for Chinese food in London.
I really like this restaurant. It’s been around for 20 years and is definitely worth trying at least once. The Sichuan cuisine here is very authentic! I especially love their grilled fish and pork knuckle — both are cooked perfectly with great flavor and texture. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, the dishes come out quickly, and the ingredients are always fresh. Honestly, you can just order whatever you like and you probably won’t go wrong.
