Overall, R&D is an impressive Chinese fusion restaurant that elevates traditional flavours without straying too far from the heritage and origins of the dishes as other Chinese fusion restaurants have. Crispy Squid: My favourite dish from the meal by far and a very perfect example of Chinese fusion that doesn’t overdo the “fusion” part. The spice and flavour of the typhoon shelter crumbs were true to the original version of the dish with crab. Tasting those flavours with the texture and taste of squid instead of crab were such a great mix of familiarity and novelty. Bonus points from someone who hated peeling shells of crab! Best Duck in the City: The duck has been regarded as the “must try” dish of R&D and needs to be reserved 24 hours in advance. The flavours of the duck felt very familiar but the skin of the duck was not crispy at all (and it was sliced in a way that was not able to capture the flavours of the skin). Pork & Crab Siu Mai: Similar to the duck, this dish contained familiar flavours of a traditional siu mai with crab meat (kind of like a pork and crab meatball) and a very delicate layer of skin. The siu mai was topped with a curry sauce which was surprisingly delicious. R&D Fried Rice: Not much to comment on here. Just a very solid fried rice dish.

Overall, food was yummy. Fried rice, duck, scallops ceviche was exceptional. The charsiu bun was also very yummy. Only thing is, a lot of the food was very salty. Dessert was NOT good in my opinion. Would not eat again. Not sure if it was just that day, but we were sipping on our drinks often

Went here for my friend's birthday party and helped her pick out some of the items to order prior to the event. Overall, I thought the food, service, and ambience in the restaurant were all great. I've been to both akin and r&d now and I greatly enjoyed both. My personal favorites from the menu were the broccolini, the fried rice, and bao. I thought the eggplant was a bit plain, and while I enjoyed the karaage, there was something different about the taste and texture of the skin which I wasn't a fan of. Despite that, I would gladly visit this restaurant again.

Came here for summerlicious but pretty disappointed. The lamb skewer were tough. Baos were okay. Mala chicken was dry. Crab fried rice was tasty but it wasn’t prepared in a hot wok so it came out lukewarm. Mango sticky rice came with a mango pudding on top not fresh mango and they really cheaped out on the coconut cream so the last few bites were just plain sticky rice. Service was great here but the food was underwhelming.

Went here for our anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed with our choice. Almost everything we ordered was 10/10. I say almost because we enjoyed everything except the shrimp toast. The presentation was exceptional but it tasted more of deep fried bread and we could taste very little shrimp. The staff was gracious to swap that for our repeat order of lamb spiducci, which was cooked to perfection. I loved the Khao Soi. Just a disclaimer, it is spicy. I love spice so this was a winner for me. For anyone who has low tolerance, skip this. The vibe of the place is chill, the service is friendly and professional. They brought out two glasses of bubbles for our anniversary celebration which was a thoughtful gesture. We really enjoyed our visit and would return to try the Peking duck which we forgot to order ahead of time (they need 24 hour notice).
