The Black Dog Freehouse is an award-winning British pub located in Vauxhall, London. It's known for its genuine British pub atmosphere, rotating Cask-Marque accredited real ales, craft lagers, and fresh food. The pub has gained recent popularity due to its mention in a Taylor Swift song, attracting fans from around the world. It features a cozy indoor space and a good-sized outdoor seating area.
Customers generally praise The Black Dog for its delicious food, warm and inviting atmosphere, and friendly service, embodying a true English pub experience. The Black Dog Lager and sticky toffee pudding are frequently highlighted. While many appreciate the genuine British feel, some reviews mention mixed experiences with staff attentiveness and the fish-to-batter ratio in the fish and chips. It's also noted for being a popular spot for Taylor Swift fans, which some feel contributes to it being overpriced.
The Black Dog is a freehouse pub, meaning it's not tied to a particular brewery and can offer a wider selection of beers. It's located in a listed building, which unfortunately means it does not have disabled access. The pub also features a pull-down projector TV for sports events.
The pub is a good option for lunch and dinner. It can be quite full indoors on a Sunday night, suggesting it's a popular evening spot. It opens at noon, making it suitable for early lunch or a midday drink.
