The Fox sits among the gentrified old warehouses and new builds in the backstreets of Shoreditch, East London. The nearest Tube is Old Street.
The pub was built in 1833, when this part of London was an industrious furniture-making hub, and it served as a watering hole for local craftsmen.
The pub is spread over three floors: the main bar is on the ground floor; the first floor has a second bar/function room with an outdoor roof terrace; and there is also a private Karaoke Den.
The main bar is traditionally decorated with a tiled servery along the back wall. It’s a good-sized bar with plenty of traditional seating, contemporary lighting and large etched arched windows. The upstairs bar has a classy Victorian feel, with a cosy roof terrace just to the left. Attractive features include the fox portrait on the back bar and the detailed tiling.
The beer selection is solid, offering a good range of keg beers, three cask ales and a bottle shop with various bottles and cans of craft brews. I opted for a Brixton Pale Ale; my pint hit the spot, though the price was a bit punchy. Food is Asian-inspired dishes including Bao buns, gyoza, wings and sides, the reviews are favourable.
I arrived bang on opening at 12pm on a mild Saturday in October. I was first through the door, so the pub was chilled with an easy-going soundtrack in the background. After a good mooch around, I settled in to enjoy my pint and the welcoming surroundings. Service was excellent: two team members were on duty, both friendly and chatty.
Walking the quieter backstreets of Shoreditch is atmospheric, and stumbling across this classy corner pub only adds to it. I very much enjoyed my visit and loved the traditional feel. The pub gets busy during the week with post-work drinkers, so a good time to visit if you like it buzzy. It’s closed on Sundays, so for a relaxed pint away from the humdrum of Shoreditch, I recommend a Saturday visit. Excellent beers, top grub, friendly staff—well worth a stop.

Google maps tells me that the previous time I visited was almost exactly 7 years ago, in 2019. It's changed out of all recognition since then. I did prefer the old version, but at least it's still a pub and you can get a good beer there. Nice crowd, but not too crowded on a Saturday evening.
Absolutely brilliant boozer. It's got local vibes great prices for Shoreditch and the staff is fantastic. We booked it for a private engagement and couldn't be happier. Whether it's for a casual catchup with friends or a get-together with a larger group, The Fox is the perfect foil for a night of fun.
I recommend you try the bottomless wings offer on wednesdays and saturdays. We couldn't get through all of ours. But you do get 90 mins to try. the fried chicken has a heavy crunchy batter which I really like. go in hungry!
Booked the karaoke room. Spacious, large selection of songs, they have a QR code to order to the room so you don't have to go up and downstairs to the bar. Staff were lovely and helpful. Very nice spot.
