Key Information
Ynyshir Restaurant and Rooms offers an immersive, high-end dining experience with a 31-course tasting menu. It is located in Machynlleth, Wales (not London, as sometimes mistakenly associated), combining "Soul from the North" with "Ingredients from the World" under Chef-Owner Gareth Ward. The experience is priced at £450 + VAT per person and is known for its playful and creative approach to modern cuisine. The restaurant also offers accommodation.
Customers consistently praise the delectable, mind-blowing, and creative food, with many dishes described as 10/10. The staff are noted for being fantastic, friendly, and providing excellent service, with perfect pacing. The ambiance is described as beautiful, offering warm hospitality. While most dishes receive rave reviews, some minor critiques have been noted regarding the eggy texture of the honey soufflé or a slightly burnt caramel custard tart. Overall, it's considered a fantastic experience that often exceeds high expectations.
Additional Details
Ynyshir operates as both a restaurant and offers rooms for accommodation. It is known for its unique culinary philosophy, described as "Soul from the North, Ingredients from the World." Chef Gareth Ward also has a sister venue, Gwen Restaurant. The evening dining experience starts early and lasts for approximately five hours, suggesting dinner is the primary and most comprehensive offering.

A fantastic 30th lunch made all the better by exquisite food and genuine, warm service.
Food was delicious and seasonal, easy to access & full of flavour. Really comfortable setting & zero rush on the table - we were in for well over 2.5 hours and felt no rush from the front of house staff.
Food was timely & worked well together and the additional touches by the team were greatly appreciated. The non alcoholic drink options were great & a good variety which was appreciated as well.
An absolute must try & so easy to recommend. Can’t wait to return.
Absolutely loved my lunch at Trinity. I had high expectations having dined here about 10 years ago and enjoyed it then, but my experience exceeded these.
Firstly i love the menu format. 4 courses wirh choices for each is the perfect scenario for me. A compromise between the taster menu and ALC format and in my opinion superior. I like having the choice ( although the whole menu was so inviting it was hard to choose!), plus im not so bothered by desserts so a single sweet course and three savoury courses suits me.
As i mentioned i loved the menu and could easily have had any of the options. Given the 4 course format, it means id be more likely to return soon (as opposed to a single taster menu).
I opted for a ceviche, rabbit loin with mustard , spiced monkfish with crab and a mille-feuille dessert. All were delicious.
Service made you feel special whilst still being friendly and once we'd made it clear we wanted to engage with staff we had a few laughs. The young sommelier was really helpful and made some good suggestions within our budget.
All in all a fantastic experience and at a fair price too.
Highly recommended.
Mind blowing, amazing, creative, product led, fantastic. I could carry on and on!! This place is fantastic. All the staff are fantastic from when you arrive til you leave. Sommelier Alex was excellent at pairing glasses of wine to my chosen selection of dishes. The food is divine. The hot smoked salmon dish I had was so good I could of cried. I cannot wait to return! Adam Byatt is a master at his craft and all his talented team and a genuine breath of fresh air in this tough industry.
Wow! What an amazing restaurant. The food was delicious. Service was amazing. Left feeling pleasantly surprised. Visited for a birthday and was left a lovely little card, signed by some of the kitchen staff. Cost was reasonable for the quality and excellence of the food and service. Can’t wait to book again.
Overall the food was ok, the pigeon main course was very salty. The desserts in general were excellent. Given the Michelin star, I would have expected more of a wow factor to the dishes. They were relatively simple
