Key Information
The Guinea Grill is London's original steakhouse, established in 1952 in the heart of Mayfair. It operates as both a historic Young's pub and a renowned restaurant, specializing in dry-aged, grass-fed British beef cooked on an open grill. The restaurant is known for its curated wine list, acclaimed Guinness, and the unique experience of showcasing large cuts of meat at the table.
Customers highly praise The Guinea Grill for its excellent meat dishes, extensive wine list, and warm, welcoming ambiance. Service is generally described as excellent, with staff sometimes showing cuts of meat at the table. The pub area can be lively, with some reviews noting a 'rowdy' atmosphere. While starters and steaks receive consistent acclaim, some recent feedback mentioned disappointment with Sunday roast portion sizes and the exterior decor. Reservations are highly recommended due to its popularity.
Additional Details
The Guinea Grill is part of the Young's pub group. It is highly rated for its Guinness, even being featured on the 'Guinness Map' with a 4.5 rating. A unique detail mentioned by customers is the presence of 'one of the cutest restrooms'.
The restaurant is busy throughout the entire week, making reservations essential, especially for dinner. Weekdays may see a clientele primarily composed of people working in the surrounding Mayfair neighborhood.
I have had both lunch and dinner here. It is always a good spot for those who like their meat. Their wine list is good but we decided to have a Guinness on this occasion, which was poured well.
I had devilled kidneys on toast to start - the sauce was excellent. This was followed by the lamb cutlets which were nicely cooked and came with a traditional mint sauce. Their sides are excellent - I opted for the confit potatoes on this occasion.
Service was excellent. Appreciated that they show you some of the larger cuts at your table to aid decision making and also provide their own bread.
Although this is technically a Youngs pub at the front, it really is a restaurant and that is what it is famous for. Will be back.
OMG! I absolutely love this place. Guinea grill is an authentic British restaurant with amazing meat dishes , pies, and an extensive wine list. The ambience is warm and welcoming. Excellent service. Alan and Stuart were wonderful.
We had oysters, scallops, fillet, spinach , brocollini, beef and mushroom pie, toffee pudding, bread and butter pudding and chocolate mouse. Yum. It was a feast and a treat for our tastebuds. Thank you.
Hubs and I had an amazing meal here.
The atmosphere was a bit lairy. The bar patrons were pretty rowdy and some aggressive shouting was overheard.
The service was fine, but wasn't overly friendly nor did they check back after starters or mains to see if everything was okay.
Had the crab tart, so delicious. Hubs had soup, also reported as top notch. Steaks- no notes, 10/10. Chips were properly done.
The bottled water (Kingsdown?) Is terrible, ask for San P or other.
Tucked in 30 Bruton Place, Mayfair, Guinea has a restaurant and pub. It’s busy during the entire week, so make sure you reserve your table for the restaurant. Anything in the menu is amazing and will not disappoint. For the restaurant it’s around £100pp+. During the week, it’s mostly frequented by people working in/around the neighbourhood. It’s a calmer, less touristy side of the town, so outdoor area is also enjoyable for a pint. The most important point is, it is on the Guinness Map, and rated 4,5 for its Guinness - and I agree (as an unofficial Guinness ambassador).
Ps: and might have one of the cutest restrooms.
Rather underwhelming…..
Have visited this restaurant midweek on several occasions over the years on business lunches and always been impressed.
With this in mind, decided to book Sunday lunch for the family on my son’s Birthday.
Felt on arrival that the outside decor looked a tad tatty, fake Astro turf and neon lights not working.
Service was adequate, but never felt like was going above and behind, until we had an older waiter towards the end of the meal who has been there for many years.
Starters were good and those that had the pies for main course also enjoyed their meal. Pork roast was also good and also the side vegetables.
However the portion size and the beef roast dinners were very disappointing. Four pieces of small roast potato and a small piece of very fatty beef. After complaining the Manager did bring more potatoes and another slice of beef.
Regularly visit other London restaurants for Sunday lunches and did not feel this offered anywhere near the same standard of food and overall experience.
