Eating at Simpson's in the Strand was an absolute treat. The door is held open by a doorman when entering, and one is nicely greeted at the reception. I was then asked if I had a reservation, which I did, and then if I wanted a newspaper to read (included with the meal at no charge). Of course I said yes! Another server then quickly shuttled me to my table. After perusing the magnificent menu, I decided to go with the beef roast served on a trolley, and ordered a St. Emilion red wine to go with it. The beef tasted excellent, although admittedly I was hoping for a bit more meat given the price. The mixed vegetables on the side were also delicious, and the spotted dick pudding for dessert was simply scrumptious. This is a classic London restaurant still firing on all cylinders after nearly falling into the danger of permanent closure. It's expensive, but completely worth the splurge.

Great meal at the newly reopened Simpson's in the Strand. The main dining room is impressive with it's high ceilings, mahogany wood walls and the numerous leather bound booths. The service was very good and must be complimented. The cuisine is old school British. I can recommend the Scallops starter as well as the Oysters. I can recommend the Beef Wellington which was very good and carved at the table. We had a very enjoyable meal and will certainly be revisiting.

A fantastic experience, and I mean experience in the simple sense that it is more than just good food. Dining at the newly reopened Simpsons has a real sense of occasion. From the moment you walk in, you notice the history of the place, the high ceilings, and the buzz in the room, especially as the doors open into the Grand Divan Room. The food is exactly what you want from Simpsons: classic British cooking done properly. It would have been hard not to go for the beef trolley, and it lived up to expectations. The beef was carved beautifully, the roast potatoes were crisp and golden, and the vegetables were cooked with care. It is traditional, but feels special. For pudding, the lemon posset was spot on, light, sharp, and nicely balanced. The spotted dick was also excellent, served warm with delicate custard that did not feel heavy or overly sweet. The Pear Ricky cocktail was a highlight too: crisp, refreshing, and well-made. Overall, the quality was consistent. The service was attentive and professional without being overbearing, and it made the whole evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. Very happy to say: Simpsons is open again, and it is well worth a visit.
