An unforgettable evening at Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay, located within the iconic Savoy Hotel in London. Named after the year the legendary Auguste Escoffier joined The Savoy, the restaurant celebrates the heritage of classic French fine dining while showcasing the finest British ingredients with modern elegance.
The intimate dining room created a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, allowing guests to fully appreciate the experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional - professional, attentive and genuinely welcoming. Every dish was carefully explained, and the team ensured the pace of the meal was relaxed and enjoyable throughout the evening.
The experience started beautifully with a selection of elegant canapés. The crispy savoury cones topped with delicate seafood and caviar delivered a wonderful burst of flavour in a single bite, while the glossy bite-sized appetisers presented on spoons showcased both creativity and precision. Before the meal progressed, we were also served their signature milk bread, freshly baked and wonderfully soft with a rich buttery aroma. Accompanied by two specially prepared butters, one infused with herbs and another with a richer, more traditional profile, it was incredibly difficult to stop reaching for another piece.
We then enjoyed a beautifully crafted tasting menu beginning with Potage Parmentier, followed by sweet Cornish Brown Crab paired with kiwi and Meyer lemon. The Native Lobster with lemon verbena bisque was one of the highlights, showcasing delicate flavours and excellent execution. The Atlantic Halibut was perfectly cooked and complemented by samphire and seaweed beurre blanc, while the Cornish Red Chicken with morel mushrooms, asparagus and Sauce Albufera demonstrated the restaurant’s mastery of classic French techniques.
To accompany the meal, we selected a bottle of Ségla 2016 from Margaux, the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla. The wine was elegant and beautifully balanced, with notes of dark berries, violets and silky tannins that paired wonderfully throughout the dinner.
The evening concluded with a refreshing Kir palate cleanser and a delightful Fragola Melba, a modern interpretation of Escoffier’s famous dessert. Every course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented without unnecessary complexity.
Restaurant 1890 is a wonderful example of how outstanding ingredients, classical culinary craftsmanship and impeccable hospitality can come together to create a truly memorable dining experience. Combined with the elegant surroundings of The Savoy, exceptional service and a superb bottle of Bordeaux, it was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my recent visit to London. 🍷✨🍽️
Dining at Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay was a truly refined and thoughtfully curated experience that reflects the essence of modern fine dining at its highest level.
The tasting menu was beautifully composed, each course demonstrating precision, balance, and a clear respect for both technique and ingredients. The French onion soup set a deep, comforting tone, followed by the Cornish brown crab, which was the most striking dish of the evening. Its combination of flavours and textures was entirely unexpected yet perfectly harmonious — a truly memorable and creative composition, elevated even further by the Imperial Oscietra caviar.
The native lobster agnolotti was a highlight, showcasing both technical finesse and a perfectly judged harmony of flavours. The Cornish John Dory, paired with samphire and a seaweed beurre blanc, was executed with remarkable precision — light, refined, and deeply satisfying.
The Cornish red chicken with morels and sauce Albufera brought richness and structure to the menu, while the desserts — Yorkshire rhubarb & champagne and Fragola Melba — offered a beautifully balanced, refreshing conclusion.
The wine pairings served with each course were exceptional and provided a perfect complement to the dishes, enhancing the overall experience with great attention to detail.
Service throughout the evening was impeccable — discreet, well-paced, and highly professional, allowing the cuisine to truly shine.
A genuinely memorable dining experience that reflects both craftsmanship and passion. Absolutely deserving of its Michelin recognition.
A perfect lunch celebration fine dining.
The Black Truffle Crème Brûlée is a must-try, which is the best, rich, smooth, and full of truffle aroma. The restaurant offers a serene and elegant atmosphere with impeccable attention to detail in everything from the tableware to the service.
The Poire Williams dessert was the star of the show with its creative presentation. Highly recommended for any special occasion.
The overall experience at restaurant 1890 was excellent, and I can now see why the restaurant was awarded 1 Michelin star. It’s almost hidden in a small section of the Savoy that’s luxurious in its own right.
I had the lunch set at £90, which already includes 3 of the 5 dishes featured on the full tasting menu. Everything was excellent.
It’s a great place to take a date.
I highly appreciate the restaurant for the way they handled a small incident.
My family reserved a table for 2 adults and 1 child. We only remembered to mention that we would be bringing a child under 10 years old and asked whether the restaurant would accept that. Both the restaurant and I forgot to confirm that we would only need 2 tasting menus for the adults. My child would not be dining, just sitting with us. As a result, the restaurant prepared 3 tasting menus.
Right after finishing the amuse-bouche, we clarified the situation. Normally, I would have been required to pay for all 3 tasting menus without being able to cancel at that point. Fortunately, the restaurant agreed to serve and charge us for only 2 tasting menus.
The food and quality were absolutely worth the price for such a culinary experience.
We truly value this restaurant!
